Harry here... Jerry Goldsmith has died and I'm really mourning his loss. Jerry had an astonishing master-touch with that wand of his... From his TV work to his film work he got us all in love with his music. About 12 minutes before I got word of Jerry's passing, I got this link. After seeing that frightening as could be awe-inspiring photo... I said to my good friends, "They should name the monkey/ape CESAR." Moments later, I find that the man that created that awesome "hunt" music from the beginning of THE PLANET OF THE APES had died. A quick look at his filmography produced in me the following list of my personal favorite Jerry Goldsmith scores:
A PATCH OF BLUE
PLANET OF THE APES
100 RIFLES
PATTON
PAPILLON
CHINATOWN
THE WIND AND THE LION
TAKE A HARD RIDE
LOGAN'S RUN
OMEN
THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL
THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY
ALIEN
STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE
POLTERGEIST
THE SECRET OF NIMH
GREMLINS
SUPERGIRL
RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART 2
TOTAL RECALL
BASIC INSTINCT
MATINEE
THE SHADOW
L.A. CONFIDENTIAL
SMALL SOLDIERS
I'm sure I've missed a few, I'd love to have everything he ever did for film on CD! Jerry's one of the guys whose music didn't sound like redundant lazy work where only the key and timings seem to change. Well, I'm putting on SECRET OF NIMH right now. There's something magic in the music to that film that'll cheer me up no matter how bad the day. What's your fave Jerry score?
