Mr. Klopp claps at VINCE VAUGHN'S WILD WEST COMEDY SHOW!
Hey folks, Harry here... This past Thursday - AICN had two Alamo Drafthouse screenings against one another at the exact same time. It was an embarrassing screw-up of planning - where one hand didn't check to see what the other was really doing - but I had personally set up the TEETH screening, while Quint had been feeling out this other screening - and when all came to pass - I was at TEETH, Quint was at Sundance and Mr Klopp - a dear close associate of the site, that does not review much - was left to write in with his thoughts on the evening. If you attended this event - feel free to flesh out the details and send them in. But it sounds like if you chose TEETH or VINCE's show... you had a damn fine time on Thursday night. Here ya go...
mmmm, comedy. stand-up is a rare pleasure for me. honestly, I love the entertainment, hate the venues. having said that, I caught this movie at the alamo drafthouse in south austin. Vince's sister, Victoria Vaughn (exec producer) and one of the featured comedians Sebastian (last name is something italian), gave a fantastic Q&A afterwards. In any case, I would go to a place like the Alamo for good stand-up regularly.
I've seen the marketing for this , and it doesn't do it justice. the presentation of the branding, forced by the title VINCE VAUGHN'S WILD WEST COMEDY SHOW is too flat. this film has depth. I've seen the onesheet and makes me think of a string of show excerpts or a comedy about a rodeo... and that isn't what it is.
this isn't two hours of laughing, this is two hours of entertainment. nine hundred hours of footage, honed, cut, and shaped into a documentary with the best comedy relief I've seen in years. Imagine Vince Vaughn getting a wild hair up his ass and filling some touring buses with four comedians, extra talent, support people and hitting the road for thirty days. one show a night for thirty days. sleep on the bus as it goes to the next town. the movie mirrors the planning... starts rough, gets a groove, and ends up a gem of a movie.
the comedians are hilarious, and in between shows, all things are seen. they talk about the mechanics of comedy, personal inspirations, they visit with family along the way, they provide a benefit show for Katrina refugees, they get upset at their performance, they prank each other on the bus, and they meet middle america. if the pace of the schedule wasn't so insane, I'd want to go. like going on a month long road trip with the funniest people you can find.
great date movie, a bit too much cursing for the kids.
call me Mr. Klopp
