MOONLIGHT/THREE RIVERS Star Alex O'Loughlin To Play Top Island Cop Steve McGarrett In CBS’ New HAWAII FIVE-0 Pilot!!

I am – Hercules!!

Alex O'Loughlin, star of failed CBS series “Moonlight” and “Three Rivers,” will fill the shoes of Jack Lord in the network’s new pilot for a “Hawaii Five-0” remake.

“Lost” vet Daniel Dae Kim was cast earlier this week in the role of Chin Ho Kelly, originally played by Kam Fong.

The series, which like the CBS original will follow a fictional Hawaiian police agency, is overseen by writer-producers Peter Lenkov (“CSI: NY”) and Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman (co-creators of “Fringe” and writers of last year’s “Star Trek” movie).

Still uncast are the roles of detectives Dan Williams (originally played by James MacArthur) and Kono Kalakua (originally played by Gilbert “Zulu” Kauhi).

This is actually CBS’ second stab at a “Five-0” follow-up series, but the 1997 pilot from Stephen Cannell (“The Rockford Files,” “Wiseguy”) was a continuation rather than a remake, with MacArthur, Fong, Kauhi, Herman Wedemeyer, Moe Keale and Harry Endo all reprising their roles from the original series. Joining the cast were Gary Busey (“Lost Highway”) as new Five-0 chief Jimmy Xavier Berk, Russell Wong (“The Mummy III”) as FBI special agent Nick Wong and Elsie Sniffen (who used the stage name Kayla Blake when she was cast the next year on “Sports Night”) as a newer Five-O detective.

(Trivia: “Sports Night” creator Aaron Sorkin would later create a recurring “West Wing” character named Elsie Snuffin. Snuffin was played not by Blake but by “Wonder Years” icon Danica McKellar.)

(More trivia: the 1997 pilot kicked off with the attempted assassination of Hawaiian governor Dan “Danno” Williams.)
