Variety: Fox Could Pull Plug On 24 In ‘The Next Day Or Two’!!

Variety says Jack Bauer’s small screen career could be about to end:


Studio and network execs declined comment -- but it's believed that the final decision will be made in the next day or two.

While “24” hit a ratings uptick on Monday and continues to perform better than “Lie To Me” did in the post-“House” timeslot last fall (“Lie To Me” is reportedly likely to return next season) the actioner’s ratings apparently are no longer high enough to justify the show’s enormous budget.

The plug won't be pulled immediately, of course. Regardless of whether "24" gets a ninth season, Fox intends to air all 24 hours of the current eighth season.

The cancellation of the series would pave the way for the big-screen version of “24,” scripted by Billy Ray (“Shattered Glass,” “Flightplan”), that would take Bauer to Europe.
