Guy Ritchie And The Writer Of TRAINSPOTTING Take On...King Arthur!!

Merrick here...

While continuing to develop a SHERLOCK HOLMES sequel, Guy Ritchie has also been attached to a King Arthur project over at Warners. The film is being written by John Hodge.

Project aims to be a re-imagining of the legend of Arthur, believed to have been a 6th century king who defended Britain against Saxon invaders. Key source material will be Thomas Mallory's "Le Morte d'Arthur," published in 1485 as a compilation of French and English tales.

...says Variety HERE.

Hodge previously scripted TRAINSPOTTING, SHALLOW GRAVE, and A LIFE LESS ORDINARY.

Mallory's LE MORTE D' ARTHUR was perviously used as source material for John Boorman's EXCALIBUR, which featured a super-hot sex scene in which Uther Pendragon puts it to Lady Igraine while wearing his armor, thus conceiving Arthur. Fetishistically provocative even by today's standards.

You can find copies of LE MORTE D' ARTHUR HERE.

Other notable King Arthur films include the Bruckheimer produced KING ARTHUR (2004)...Jerry Zucker's FIRST KNIGHT in 1995 (Sean Connery as Arthur)...UNIDENTIFIED FLYING ODDBALL - aka THE SPACEMAN IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT (1979) - in which an astronaut and his look-alike robot end up back in Arthurian times (temporal hilarity was supposed to ensue)...and ARTHUR (1981), in which Dudley Moore portrayed the King as a drunken loner looking for love in New York City, assisted by John Gielgud's wizardly henchman. Oh, wait...
