I felt compelled to sign up on AICN just so that I could write in the talkback that its stuff like this that makes this site so great. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it so I won't even try to apply, (besides GTAIV comes out that day) but I just hope Capone sees people do appreciate all the hard work and dedication they put into this site. I check it like ten times a day, and I'm sick of people being dicks in the talkbacks. You don't like them? Stop coming here. These guys work hard for the stuff they are most passionate about, the same things we all are. FILM. This guy is going to sit and read all of these applications and find the people who really care the most, and that is rare and special. I hope you read this Capone, so you can forget about all these A-holes saying theyd spit in your mouth. Some of us appreciate the work. Fuck the rest.

Repulsors as a means of flight thrust...

09:38:39 PM
I'm pretty excited for this film, but Iron Man using his hand-mounted Repulsors as a means of flight thrust really bothers me. It seems like it would make it difficult to carry a person or object, or to engage in any air-to-air, hand-to-hand combat. Are the Repulsors used like this in the Ultimate Universe?

The Iron Harry animation is super-cool, by the way!

But lately, Chicago's been rather deadly (32 shot this past weeked, 6 dead so far) and I'd rather just wait a few days and stay here in Michigan where people aren't going apeshit.

Besides, I have to go there in May for a concert, and one trip to the Windy City is enough for me this spring.

Good luck everyone. Remember to duck!

Were in the greatest city in the world...and unless i'm mistaken...we are also in a theater with a built in restaurant/bar. Hell, with enough cordination, we could have an iron man drinking competition before or aftr the movie (preferbly after to take in the movie). Who needs flyin Iron Men when you can drink to the moon and talk about old comic storis while your girlfriend/date watches and learns how much of a dork you truly are. Priceless. Capone. We need a new title on this page to compete with Harry's. How bout, "Capone's Underground Prohibition Iron Man Chicago Film Premiere?"

Well, I had no idea. I can't connect to the site right now (apparenly server problems), but I found some other info online. First of all, seems I moved out of the suburbs a year or so before it opened (I'm now about an hour and a half from Chicago), and whenever I've looked since then, I've only been looking at Chicago, didn't think to check outside areas like Woodridge. THANK YOU for the heads up! I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for more happenings there!!

Chicagoland theaters

I grew up here in Chicago(not the burbs/no disrespect to person's from the burbs/it's a Chi-Town thing), and I grew up going to cheap-1980's style theaters(I'm 26)...I saw plenty of our beloved movies of the past two decades at 'The Logan', 'Portage', and the 'Davis' theater. And while we don't have anything that seems as cool as the Alamo(gotta see this theater, it must be the Mecca, there's a certain cool factor about going to a therater where there's popcorn under your chair, a slightly broken door, and old-school suround sound. Plus, it's probably $3-$4 cheaper than the giant chains, and the concessions aren't as expensive. I guess it's just nostalgia, I remember seeing Die Hard 3 for $2 when it came out. But my favorite theater in the Chicagoland area is The 'Lake' in Oak Park, right outside of the Chi. Theater two on a warm-Spring night is still a thing of beauty. If ever in Chicago people, check it out!

No, I'm sure it doesn't get you in, but I will say this: I really hope these passes will go to people who are active participants in the AICN community. I would hate to see them instead go to lurkers who are just here for the free stuff, or people that heard about this elsewhere and just flocked here purely looking to get into an early screening.

Muvico. Hollywood Blvd. was nice. It basically tried to accomplish what many of the premium cinemas in other states (namely California and Florida) had started. The problem was, the budget clearly wasn't as high to match those other cinemas. A few months ago, one of those Florida chains hit Illinois, and its located in Rosemont, near Ohare, and it's called Muvico. Trust me. It blows Hollywood Blvd. out of the water. Free popcorn, vip leather seating, full service bar and restaurant. The food...is fancy restaurant quality, which tops the medicore (but still good) food you'd get at Hollywood blvd. Ha, obviously if I lived by a hollywood blvd., i'd go there all the time. But muvico, made hollywood second best in Illinois. I highly reccomend it. https://www.muvico.com/default .asp?t=210

we're (or at least I'm) not looking for the fancy plush seating and the restaurant and bar, so much as it's the events and atmosphere of fandom. Muvico seems like its more catering to "high class moviegoing" rather than just fans who love seeing movies. I want somewhere that's really in touch with people like us, and hosts events like the ones we always hear about at Alamo.

It has shit parking (because it's in the corner of a strip mall). I saw Batman Begins there and it's a great theater, but Muvico looks AWESOME! I might just head there to see Iron Man. On the other hand, Hollywood Blvd is close to my work and I'd be able to see the sneak preview if they were holding it there. :-(

Yorktown cinema has a premium theater, with leather seats and high-end food and cocktails, yet I prefer Hollywood blvd. I'm more with the notion that people in theaters want Long Island Iced teas and beers, with burgers and hotwings, rather than fine wine and crab bisque. Hollywood Blvd is not ghetto'y by any means, but it's a good place to get fucked up on liquor, laugh your ass off at a movie, and not feel selfconscious about a "serious" crowd around you. It's also nice that it's 5 minutes from my house.

Because it's CAPONE! He types -- er, WRITES for AICN! He needs to hold these ridiculous sham contests to feel loved, because his life is an empty shell otherwise. Insecurities abound. Cut the guy some slack. The only way he can get anyone to sit next to his fat, middle aged ass in a theater is to host a contest. Pity him.
I defintely agree about better moviegoers at Hollywood

and to the comment about Yorktown cinema, they are totally different things. I remember when Yorktown was remodeled, I think it was like 10 years go. So there's quite a huge difference. But yea...Muvico s quite expensive. 19 bucks if you do premium. But the difference between muvico and hollywood blvd and yorktown is night and day. But yea...I totally agree you won't find the true movie fans at a premium cinima. I just thought it would be funny to take this classy cinima and fill it with a couple hundred of hardcore iron man fans. defintely would be ironic. But i see what you mean. Definitely a lot of yuppies who pay just so they can have the "I'm the best" feeling, rather than really caring about the film.

Well, I live across from Yorktown - it's not bad, and neither is Muvico. But we're talking about an experience with people who LOVE movies. People who work at places like Hollywood, or more appropriately the Drafthouse are more often than not PASSIONATE about movies. People at Yorktown couldn't give a rat's ass.

The proximity of River East actually caused it to close down. The main screen there was huge and had a great sound system. Fortunately caught a few event movies there before it closed. I am surprised Chicago does not have an old school movie palace in operation. Portage Theater may qualify, but I've yet to see any movies there and see what it's actually like. It is a rentable, 2000 seat venue, I know that much. Capone, maybe for a future screening? May want to look into it. http://www.portagetheater.org

You're correct on that point. I haven't been to any of the charity screenings myself, but an acquaintance of mine actually spearheaded the first Serenity screening there.
