Hrm. You both make good points. The problem though is that all the world sees are the worst sides of Islam. I was never one to advocate mixing religion and politics, so whenever a governing/religious body does, I get offended. I have met several Muslims in my life -- men and women -- hailing from Egypt, Iran, China, Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Philadelphia, you name it. Not a single one of them was ever "DEATH TO THE AMERICAN SATAN! PRAISE ALLAH! KILL SALMAN RUSHDIE! WARGABARGLE!!!" I guess I'd just like to see a movie where Muslims are shown as real people...and not like the friggin' ducks from DUCK HUNT. -_-

If i was Bruckheimer i would walk well the fuck away from this proposed movie. This is getting into Paul Greengrass propaganda type nonsense that serves helps no one. Selling pro war movies whilst troops die in Iraq right now is going to be a VERY HARD SELL, and wont make money. Unless of course people are really that daft and blood thirsty...

Pondscum: Considering some of the characters you've come across during the political bitchfests on this site, is it really all that weird to see one Persian on here? Sure, Mr. Dinnerjacket won by a landslide but are you really surprised by that? Especially when you have a rigged election where the only candidates are the "Islamic Hardliner," the "Other Islamic Hardliner," and the "Fake Reformist Who Is Actually An Islamic Hardliner In Disguise." In fact its pretty pointless to have an Iranian President because its the ruling Mullahs who call the shots. Prof_Ender: I understand that you would want to see Muslims as real people, but in my opinion I would rather see the worst side of Islam illustrated the most because that is the side that's making all of the noise. And quite frankly, the more focus put on that side, the more attention there will be on illegitimate governments like the Islamic Republic of Iran. Awareness is the key. The more awareness there is, the better - even if it does come from Hollywood. Besides, a story about an Iranian who wants to defect to the West is more true than you realize.
