but if the two week gap between pt. 1 and pts. 2 and 3 of the finale is "The most sucktacular" thing about the episode, that kinda implies that there's something else sucktacular about it. I'm not sure that's what you meant to say, but it could be taken that way.

The three hour season finale to the shortest but best season ever of the best show on TV? This will be so supersized awesome it will make "biggie" seem munchkinesque.

Y'know, not to oversell it or anything.

A year later and that one still rattles my senses to think about. But after all the slams out of the ballpark this season, I've faith that this finale will deliver. The REAL question is: will this year's Lost season finale AICN Talkback dwarf the monstrosity that was the one for last year's? :-)

I was a huge Locke fan back in the "Walkabout" and "...Man of Faith"days, but sorry, "you have to come with me is you want to live" turned out to be one of TV's emptiest promises ever.

The Locke Squad at the Otherton barracks consisted of Locke, Benjamin, Hugo, Sawyer, Claire, Aaron, five redshirts and their hostage, Miles. Sawyer, Claire, Miles and Aaron abandoned him and she may be dead because of it. Three of his redshirt extras died on screen, the other two are either dead or abandoned. Now he's down to Benjamin and Hugo, and Hurley only stayed with him because he was "asked to" at gunpoint.

As the man himself said, "Sounds like a piss-poor captain if you ask me."

(Using Darth VAder Voice) "Impressive"

Probably the strangest scheduling of a finale I can remember. And thank the almighty Darlton for it. Does anyone know if ABC is really being so benevolent and that the 2 hr finale on the 29th does nothing for them with sweeps? If so, color me impressed. I thought all networks were always about bottom line (explaining the cancellation of very popular, critically acclaimed shows -cough- A.D.-cough-

Just curious.

All of you who are so good about staying away from spoilers... PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD>>>BE CAREFUL...As I posted in Room 23-from Dark UFO :

Just to let you know that I've just been contacted by LostFan108 again and he has provided me with the main synopsis points for Episode 4.12 Parts 1, 2 and 3.

Tomorrow we will be posting a high level synopsis for 4.12 Part 1 and then sometime before 19th May we will post the key highlights from Parts 2 and 3. This will include all the main cliffhangers and talking points, including who the kiss is between, who is in the coffin (It shocked me) and what the Frozen Donkey Wheel is, along with any deaths.

I'm making this post to warn as many of you who don't like the big spoilers to stay clear of this section of the site as well as any other unmoderated message boards as there will certainly be idiots who will post it wildly around the net.

The posts will be done in such a way as to make it difficult for people to copy and paste the text and we will have lots of "Are you Sure" messages.

If you can pass this onto other web sites and message board owners warning them to watch out for potential trolls spreading the spoilers.

I will post any news item on Room 23...but I will have InvisoText and plenty of warning (as well as ample credit to Dark UFO and their source) - so no fear of the Room.

Trik...

I'm out of the name calling business. Someone else will step up to the plate I am sure. So here are two simple facts so you can brace yourself.

Cheech Marin has been in Episodes before. In fact he was prominent in a Hurley-centric Episode...dad comes back after Hurley wins the lottery storyline. The Camero bit. Anyway...

7 Years. True. But since BSG is done after they show the 2nd half of this split season and LOST is done in 2 more years (34 Eps)...in 2 years we will have the finale to both shows. So I suppose you are right - in 7 years we will STILL have them. Not sure why you'd pick that number, though.

I love Sci Fi
by edshrinker
May 15th, 2008

Obviously. I enjoy muppets in Farscape for God's sake, I must really love Sci-Fi.

But if aliens play the big reveal in Lost, Darlton will never work again. And his fan club (most of us) will lose much faith in him. I could understand unexplained phenomena and advanced culture maybe from another world...but if everything gets explained away as being due to aliens and alien tech - I will puke.

way back before history, in the first AICN Lost article, it was all about the howling in the night and the moving of the trees and the something moving in the grass that turns out to be a polar bear of all things, but there's something in the jungle that's bigger than a polar bear. So the folks expecting some Kong type direction were thinking "giant bear". Then it turns out to be a smoke monster, and now everyone calls it "Smokey." Smokey, Bear. Now I get it. Remember, kids, only you can prevent jungle fires.

by Napoleon Park
May 15th, 2008
04:51:18 AM
Like Homer Simpson. Four toes. And because you made the tiniest little insignificant error in your calculations, your entire thesis is invalidated. Sorry, no spaceship. It's a super-intelligent meteor - the same one that sank Atlantis and then bounced and orbited halfway around the world. Jacob was the Wandering Jew, cursed to immortality after having been "cured" of death by Jesus, and he was a vampire traveling in the hold of The Black Rock captained by Richard Alpert when the ship was taken by a hurricane caused by the long buried meteors electromagnetic properties. Oh, and time travel is variable but linear - you can move at different speeds, but only n one direction; there's no going back. And ask any psychiatrist; you CAN move an Island, but only if it truly wants to move.

And there's nothing wrong with dumbf*ckery - mute people enjoy coitus too.

Keamy and some other random thoughts...
by Youguysgotanymilk
May 15th, 2008
07:23:53 AM
as much as Keamy needs to die, I dont want him to. It's nice to have a real bad guy again. Kevin Duran plays him perfectly, to see his transformation over the course of three episodes was amazing. (Going from a discharged Marine who was reluctant to kill somebody, to a maniac who will kill anybody who gets in his way).

How great would it be if somehow Keamy survives. We see a flashforward of him working with Widmore as his hired gun. Then we could have a Sayid vs Keamy flash forward.

Also, anyone else think that if Ben wouldn't have sent Alex, karl and Danielle to the temple, everyone would still be safe inside the barracks? Keamy used Alex to open the sonic fence. If she wouldn't have left the compound how would they have gotten in?

Also, I like the idea that the iPod on Keamy's arm is a device to repell Smokey, BUT, when he was on the freighter and the captain and Keamy were at a standoff, Keamy showed the captain the device and the captain acted as if he couldn't shoot keamy because he was wearing the device. This makes me think it is linked to his heart and if he dies alot more people will die (ie. go boom!)

Anyone thinking Sawyer made it off the island with out some people knowing it? Who else would be "expecting Kate" as she said in the finale last year? Aaron is like 3 years old all he is expecting is a bottle and some shit in his diaper.

I may be wrong, but I thought Kate said to Jack "He'll be wondering where I am" (or something along those lines), which ould easily apply to the kid. Also, a couple of weeks ago, Jack told Kate she shouldn't be doing things for Sawyer because "he chose to stay". That doesn't completely shoot down your theory but there you go.

Based on the clips above and the synopsis, it seems pretty clear that the families of the oceanic six are waiting for them when they land, so I wouldn't read a whole bunch into the fact that Hurley's dad and Jack's mum are in the episode since it probably isn't for major plot reasons.

Pa posted a new Doc Jensen article in Room 23 in which he mentions a certain statue of great folklore and another statue of some repute.

I checked the blog and my "Did "The Other Woman" give us a big clue to what the 4-toed statue is?" post was 1 month and 1 day ago (14Apr).

Being crazy doesn't necessarily make you...well...nuts.

Now I know the ideas are different, although I do seem to remember him saying some stuff related to the gods, too. But you gotta admit, that's pretty good.

Should this ep really be considered part 1 of the finale, or is ABC just labeling it that as a ratings ploy? Either way, I'll be watching!

its sorta silly having any episodes of this show be called part 1 or whatever. its a non stop continuing storyline and many episodes end on a "cliffhanger" anyway. so yes this whole 3 part finale is just a ratings thing. i mean this 3 part story is just the last 3 parts of the season long story. anyway im probably not making sense because i'm canadian and we do that often. anyway i've been watching Roswell this week and its amazing how even though she doesnt look all that different, Claire and Tess seem like two completely different actresses...she's good.

Even though Jack said he decided to stay, doesn't mean it's the truth. It's like my fiance telling her friends that I "don't like going to strip clubs". She may believe it to be true, but that doesn't make it true.

So just because jack thinks Sawyer is still on the island, doesn't mean he is. He could have made it off a different way (Orchid?) without the O6 knowing it.

So when Kate said she was doing something for Sawyer, maybe that "something" was giving him a 'handy' or playing hide the salami?

Alright. I doubt that it is true but I still don't by that Aarron is who Kate is worried about getting back to.

It won't have invalidated the Season 3 ending. I've posted about this before, but there are a couple of reasons Charlie still died for a good cause. First of all, regardless of whether Claire is dead or not, Aaron DOES get off the island. That's half the equation for Charlie. Then you have to consider the possibility that Des lied to Charlie about his vision. Because if Charlie knew that Claire was in danger, he might not have gone down to The Looking Glass. So the fact remains that Charlie still believed that he was acting in Claire's best interest. If you want to be upset at anything invalidating his death, you should be upset at the fact that Charlie discovered the deception. But even that turned out for the good of the 815ers because they had *some* degree of warning about their false rescuers. So there's nothing wasted or invalidated here. Charlie's death is still heroic.

Frozen Donkey Wheel...
by theseventhshore
May 15th, 2008
04:24:32 PM
The Oceanic 6 'mystery' has been a no-brainer for some time. Claire's 'death' is hardly up for debate. And 'moving the island' will most likely end up as some kind of insta-wormhole jaunt through spacetime (hopefully with the last shot of the finale having the island survivors emerge from the Orchid to arctic winds and snow falling from the sky!). But the one thing that confounded me was the 'Frozen Donkey Wheel' finale moniker teased by Darlton for months now. I may have a glimmer, though...it just came to me as I was researching small Spanish towns I hope to hike through this summer, and saw pictures of sunsoaked farmlands in the North of Spain. Many of these farmers still use livestock - ie: donkeys - and attach them to wooden contraptions to grind grains, press olives, raise well water, etc. And these contraptions TEND to be circular/wheel-like devices that force the creatures to walk in a circle to perform their task. Do you smell what I'm cooking yet? What if the ORCHID is metaphorically similar in principal? What if 'moving the island' or, to be blunt, TIME TRAVEL itself is spiritually akin to this process ie: moving in circles/fixed-motion to perform a task? The olives get pressed. The grain gets ground. The water gets raised. But the DONKEY CAN'T LEAVE. I now believe that the 'wheel' could be the 'cabin'. That Jacob is the 'donkey'. And the fruits of his labours/suffering ("Help Meeeee.....") is spacetime travel. Discuss...

To create characters out of the initial Freighter folk. We got a non-informative flashback episode of them back at the beginning of the season, everyone was intrigued. Since then, they've just been hanging out.

Lost is about character isn't it? So we need some character in these people! Faraday has gotten the most (through Des) but still not enough. The others need more backstory.

Also, now that we know Keamy and his men are the real threat, not the initial four, I'm wondering what their purpose was to begin with? They flew in not knowing anything, then Keamy comes in anyway to blow everyone the hell up. I mean I like the new four, but I need to learn more about them!

Yeah but we know Claire isn't one of the O6. Perhaps, because Charlie did something, maybe save Des himself? Or because the entire place wasn't flooded already then the vision was altered and the outcome changed....I dunno. If it isn't cleared up it's gonna be pretty disappointing.

Darlton discussed the lack of Freighter stories and stated - the writer strike pushed those stories into season 5. So - there is your answer as to why. It does suck - but considering the pace, there is no way they could have worked another one-off story in.

I personally don't think there's any need to rush into developing the "good" Freighties. Although I like them more than Nikki and Paulo, I feel sort of the same way about them: less important than the 815ers. Maybe I'll be more into it if they genuinely become integrated into the 815ers. Until then, they're a distraction in my opinion. That said, I am a fan of Miles and look forward to his eventual integration into the group. Hopefully he'll avoid death that long...

Always a generic quote from the show and then a count down till the end of the season or the number episode from the last break. Example... "Kate! Run!!! Three episodes left until a Four week break". Also, if its halfway through a cluster of consecutive episodes then throw in a Penultimate or Ultra Penultimate adjective. Still don't know what the Hell those mean. :)

I have been waiting for it since we found out and it finally came. I was applauding when it was FINALLY revealed to Jack that Claire was his sister.

It was brilliant as well when Hurley got into the car that his father gave him and looked at the dash to read the numbers, the second they showed the dash I saw this and my wife didn't till they showed it the second time.

The writers have really outdone themselves this season, IMHO is way better then S1.Amazing from top to bottom. It sure didn't fill like filler to me.

No time gap on the island for Kate to be pregnant? They were gone for real time? Pretty hard to believe! That baby sure looks older than 5 weeks! I guess it's a minor plot hole.

Also, how much in Mr. Piak's company worth that Sun could just buy it? What kind of settlement are we talking here?

Sun's settlement from Oceanic would include a settlement for her own pain and suffering, and a settlement for the wrongful death of her husband, and probably a bonus considering she's pregnant and her child will be fatherless because of Oceanic's crash.

So Sun stood to gain the most of any of the six from an Oceanic settlement. I'd imagine Jack got a pretty good bonus for them losing his father's body, too.

The settlement was either huge or Sun's company is not that big. Like.. we're talking a few hundred mil at the most. And I'm not really sure about how the baby timeline works out. Aaron is AT LEAST 2 months old when they get off the island, but they're saying 5 weeks. Hmmmm it's a stretch, especially considering how quickly newborns grow. Ah well. A show this deep in its own mythology really shouldn't have any plotholes or time flubs. Too much to ask?

Swayer is dead man..spoilery specu-la-mation
by MacFaux
May 15th, 2008
11:05:11 PM
Very nice epi..but slightly despondent of the giveaways in the final finale promo..and total spec'ing forward but it is a simple extrapolation ..Kate and Sayid arrive at the orchid, Jack and Sawyer arrive at the orchid, Jack and Locke go blah blah blah in their on little self important univers, Ben and his crew zero out Keamy and his crew..but thanks to the nice little ancillary benefit of temporal displacement ..the heart rate trigger on Keamy's deadman switch is not time synchro'd to the boat boom blocks. Kate, Sayid, Jack, and Sawyer recover Hurley..Lapidus has an hour to egress the island on the tacka tack...with only sixty minutes before the deadman switch synch's with the boat boom blocks..move move move..most riki tik..unfortunately, an errant bullet hits the fuel tank or some such thing so the huey is losing fuel..setting up the "we don't have enough fuel, we are too heavy..we aren't gonna make it back...YOU ARE!" scenario..where Sawyer gives Kate the super kiss of her life (so special that she is soon shackin with Jackin..talk about fickle bitch)..declares his undying love, asks her to promise him to look up Cassidy and Clementine..and then Sawyer is gonna take a Peter Pan right out of the chopper..I tells ya true. Sawyer is going to save them all

TPTB are right bastards one and all..Cause Sawyer is a dead man. Fekkin Bustards. I hope this all wrong, but it ain't looking good for Mr James Ford. Sawyer is a dead man fallin and flyin. Sad and wonderful.

my post at 10:38 replied to Gotham's post at 11:28 fifty minutes before he wrote it. I'm that good.

Seriously, GN, it's non-linear storytelling. Yeah, we know the O-6 get off, but the fun has been in finding out how.

And as Darlton predicted, as of 1/3rd of the way into the season finale, with Hurley at The orchid, sun and Aaron sitting on a boatload of bomb, Jack oozing drainage from his wound and, with Kate, heading to face an army and Sayid... I gotta to watch that again to remember exactly where Sayid is... But at the moment they're all over the place, so it's still anybody's guess how they all wind up getting off the island together. Does knowing they live let us worry about them less? Sure. But they're still an awful lot of characters we MIGHT see die in the next two hours - Locke Jin Sawyer Omar Richard Juliet Charlotte Rose Bernard Keamy Lapidus Desmond Michael - and a variety of ways we could see them go - raging gun battles, Danielle booby-traps, exploding freighter, crashing helicopter - so the fact that we don't have to worry if Jack, Kate, the bay-bee, the pregnant momma, Sayid, Benjamin or lovable old Hurley survive doesn't make the next couple of hours any less tense. At least, not for me.

Sun also told a room full of people that her husband died in the underwater wreckage. Was that true as well? Additionally, we haven't see what happens between this week's episode and when the Oceanic 6 get rescued. It's entirely possible that the freighter explodes and Sum assumes that Jin was on it. I guess what I'm saying is that until you see a body, nothing is certain.

A lot of folks hereabouts are guilty of this one. We've seen a room full of explosives. We haven't seen any actual proof that the device strapped to Keamy's arm has anything to do with those explosives. We can venture to guess, but I think some of us are getting ahead of ourselves and making statements of fact that are at this point JUST speculation.

If this was the first season of the show and they did the flash-forwards from episode 1, then yeah, I'd agree. But it's not and they didn't. To be anti-climactic, the mainland arrival would have had to have been the intended climax. Which it clearly isn't. It wasn't even the climax of this individual episode.
They're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat...to Blow Up!

May 16th, 2008
12:09:35 AM
Um...Wow...That was a shitload of C-4...I think Hans Gruber only had a dozen cubes of the stuff to obliterate Nakatomi Plaza. That should be a nice 'splosion we'll see out the window as Sayid takes off the deck of the freighter in the helicopter with the other Oceanic 6...with only seconds to spare, of course.

I LOVE that they opened this episode with the O-6 press conference. And yes...it gives away WHO made it back, which...at first would seem anticlimatic...but ALL the characters are just as much in jeopardy OFF the island as they were ON it...as we saw in Sayid's "Economist" flash forward. Hurley is still haunted by the numbers....Jack is suicidal...Sun is pwning her Dad (which will not go well)...Kate is...well...not affected, as yet...but I have a feeling Malkin's warning about Aaron's upbringing will come into play soon.

So...knowing WHOM gets off BEFORE they actually GET off the island only makes the HOW they got off that much more of a puzzle. How does Hugo make it on that chopper? Where does the chopper head to? Why doesn't Jin make it? It's still a fuckin' puzzle.

Why didn't Locke reckognize/acknowlege Alpert on the island?

Why was Claire so content to be in Jacob's cabin, chillin with Dad...so far from her bay-bee?

Why was Dwight having sex with Angela after she just accepted a marriage proposal?

Oh, wait...wrong show!

If Ben moves the island...does the Hydra island follow?

When is Vincent going to save the goddamn day?!!

Then Sun may simply be assuming that her husband is dead. I'm willing to let the producers resurrect Jin in the next season or the final season; they haven't pulled the "he's dead, apparently; but, no, wait, he's really not" trick on LOST. Hey, that's right, there are two Islands, the Lostie Island and the mini-island with the bear cages and the "alien runway" and the surgery and Room 23. Considerng how many named Others have been kiled off, I assumed there had to be a reserve batch on the Other Island. It looks like Richard rounded up a bunch of them, but they must have left somebody behind to look after Cindy the stewardess and Zach and Emma the children.

Does anyone know if Harper Stanhope was with Alperts group? Or Adam and Amelia from Juliet's book club?

And, um, my point - actually Brody's point, he raised the question - is, if Locke in the orchid with Magick manages to move The Island, does The Other Island tag along for the ride or get left behind?

Do you remember your second grade teacher? If I strain i may pull a name (Mrs. Godhealth i think?), but sure couldn't describe her, so lack of recognition is not an issue IMO.

The second island does make things confusing in this whole "move the island scenario". Always thought it was a misstep having two islands. Has it been discussed at all when the directional bearing comes into play? As obviously island two would have different co-ordinates

Lotsa catchin up to do.

MediaNerd...Yeah...I suppose Locke only being 7 or 8 when Alpert paid his 1st visit might make remembering him a bit tough...but that was a pretty strange encounter!

Then there's this encounter...from S3 "The Brig":

RICHARD: It's beautiful isn't it. No matter how much time you spend on the Island you just never get tired of this view. We haven't been formally introduced, I'm Richard.

[They shake hands]

RICHARD: You mind if I, join you here.

LOCKE: Nah sure.

RICHARD: He wanted to embarrass you.

LOCKE: I'm sorry?

RICHARD: Ben knew you weren't gonna kill your own father. He put you in front of everyone in our camp just so they could all watch ya fail.

LOCKE: Why?

RICHARD: Cause when word got back here that there was a man with a broken spine on the plane who could suddenly walk again, well, people here began to get very excited because that, that could only happen to someone who was extremely special. But Ben doesn't want anyone to think you're special, John.

LOCKE: And why are you telling me this?

RICHARD: Ben has been wasting our time with novelties like fertility problems. We're looking for someone to remind us that we're here for more important reasons.

LOCKE: What do you want from me?

RICHARD: I want for you to find your purpose. And to do that, your father has to go, John. And since you're not gonna do it, I'm gonna suggest someone else.

[He hands Locke a red folder. Locke looks at it briefly as Richard walks away]

LOCKE: Sawyer! Why would Sawyer kill my father, he doesn't even know him.

RICHARD: [As he leaves] Keep reading.

So...Locke gets his name...as he did when he was an awkward teen from his science teacher...Richard's weird insistence that Locke's "special"...and Alpert's appearance is nearly unchanged...I dunno...Seems like John might of said..."Have we ever met before?" at the very least...

As for the island(s) moving...Do they physically "move"...like a boat?...or relocate some other way? That remains to be seen.

I suppose all that C-4 is to ensure that ship is in very tiny pieces at the bottom of the ocean...as to not ever be traced back to Widmore.

With enough money & determination...you can make anything disappear.

I think this thing will have to be pretty fucking awesome to have the kind of power to physically move or simply scramble the already vague co-ordinates of the island by manipulating it's temporal barrier.

Keamy getting no reaction from Ben. Classic ! Ben takes one in a firefight remember and either the whole translating through space thing works on both the Island AND Ben or there is yet another seret escape device in Orchid, presumably in deep freeze hence Bens Parka, which he uses to flee the Island. (Leaving Locke as head honcho to learn the ways of the Island) Sawyer is too popular to die and they need to keep at least SOME original Losties on the Island for next season.

There also seemed to be a natural joining of the flashforward with the flashback with that Islandfolk helping the 6 off the boat photo shown in the Oceanic Presentation.

Speaking of flashbackforwards what will next weeks be ? they could throw us in a loop by having something we think is a flashforward but this time we return to the flashbacks. It could be Island action all the way with no flash or perhaps the beginning of the 6 getting together in the furthest flashforward we have yet seen after Jacks last season one, then every one of the 6 vows to get back to the Island. (though Sayid surely has a headstart with Ben if he wants back)

Anyway solid, solid stuff and I'm enjoying it thoroughly as an episodic story with engrossing characters never mind all the BIG secrets yet to be touched on.
