Won't it just be a 'holo-deck' based show with 'incidents' outside of the VR reality causing them to interact with the real world?

This is screaming: episodic episodes. Don't know if you get what i mean. I hate series where the stories are auto-conclusive in each episode.

I really hope Moore isn't spreading himself too thin. Between this, Caprica and those movies for Tom Cruise he is supposed to be writing, I don't have a lot of hope for any of them to have his full attention and I think the work as a whole will suffer.

It's never in space. What's wrong with space? That's why I think I don't watch these shows. Same with submarine movies. They make me feel claustrophic.

I'm sorry, but "allowing them to assume adventurous identities and go anyplace they want" sounds like complete and utter shit. Hey, how about a long mission space travel show that actually explores the stresses and tension of space exploration? I bet the network execs fucked this one up.

I dunno, I'd give the show a chance. Although it's terribly easy to make boring sci-fi. I was just reminded of Earth 2 recently...Btw am I the only one round here that never got into BSG? In fairness I never got into those other "slow" drama shows like Sopranos and The Wire either...

But then I also hate Dr Who/Quantum Leap/Sliders type shows where we get so see a different, totally shallow world with brand new boring undeveloped characters every week. I suppose there's folks out there that like them. At this point though, I'm willing to give Ron Moore a little faith, so seemingly like everyone else, i think this sounds awful, but I'm more than willing to be surprised.

I guess this is their way of fixing the problem of how boring such a ten year mission would be (although, personally I don't think a mission like that would be too boring). But instead of solving it with stupid holodecks, why not have the show be about the last leg of the ten year mission, with the actual arival at their destination? That could be fascinating, and it would be interested with almost anything that they found, no matter how mundane. But they aren't doing that, and I have to rely on the fait that I have in Ronald Moore, just like some of these other talkbackers.

The main characters were so developed that the shallowness of the individual episodes was overwhelmed by the continuity of Sam and Al. Boo to those who suggest otherwise.

The tail-end of a 10-year mission would be interesting, if you used flashbacks to fill in the gaps. However, you're risking two things: 1) being called '"Lost" in Space' (tm ChrTh 2008), and 2) the show lasting longer than you anticipate, and not knowing what to do when the ship gets there

...only one thing would be going on if bored people had access to a completely convincing virtual world......that's right, I'm talking about the thrill of experiencing completely convincing sex acts with famous or significant historical figures. You know people would be lining up to experience sex with Margaret Thatcher or Marie Antoinette. Just wait for the notorious Indira Gandhi, Bruce lee, and Helen of Troy foursome episode....

IO9.com had a great write-up on it last week, and knowing the details of thing helps a lot. It's looking to be quite a 'dark' show: rape, murder, betrayals, greed - and the crew are all a part of a manipulative reality show back on Earth just so the mission receives funding.

The shrink sounds like an evil Baltar, btw.

1. Virtuosity is an underrated classic (in my book) 2. D'Arcy was great in that USA Sherlock Holmes telepic with D'Onofrio as Moriarty

Flickapoo totally nailed it when he said this must be a porn show. Because let's be honest: if you were an astronaut stuck on a long voyage and you had to step into a VR simulator to kill some time and to avoid going nuts from the length of your journey, what are you REALLY going to call up?

A simulation of climbing Mt. Everest or trying to sail a boat in a storm...

...Or nailing yet another hot babe? Who by the way HAS to think you're as irresistible and studly as James Bond BECAUSE it's taking place in a simulator. In the end the girl would just rotate. It would be someone you knew in real life (whether it's an ex-girlfriend or even your buddy's girl)...a movie star you liked...or some historical figure that you've now made hot via the computer's controls. "Hey, look who I'm banging today! I'm doing Amelia Earhart! Who would've guessed she looked like Jenna Jameson? And for extra fun given this particular simulation, she's gonna be straddling me in the pilot's seat!"

Sorry, maybe on paper there's some ultra amazing story that Ron Moore wants to tell, but on first glance this sounds boring as shit. Hey, look! All-new MAKE-BELIEVE STORIES each week taking place in a VR world where NOTHING is at risk! Yawn...

As far as acting goes, we can be pretty sure it'll be good... D'Arcy is pretty damn good from what I've seen (and it can't hurt that he's kinda hot lol). Loved Nicholas Nickleby. The story (for this), however, sounds a bit shady. I'd see it though for the pedigree (the combo + D'Arcy).
