So there is Guild infiltration at the highest levels in OSI--and they were responsible for Brock's assignment to Operation Rusty's Blanket

Young Shelia Girlfriend looks a lot like Orpheus' daughter.

Quizboy is a ticking timebomb.

White is even more of a douchebag than we thought.

Quizboy is responsible for Phantom Limb--but doesn't know it...but how much does Phantom Limb remember?

Did you catch the cool Watchmen shoutout on the t-shirt in the first underground quiz show?

Overall a beautiful, satisfying episode. Best keeps getting better.

Sounds cool that they are filling in the details on how the phantom came to be. I don't see how some didn't like the last weeks episode though, when ya look back its really screwy but it does put a few factors into perspective. Its plausable to say that Killinger was right in calling Doc a bad person.

With Orpheus when he was still married. With the entire episode presented as like a hokey sitcom set in the Orpheus household. Also, the best part of this latest episode is that they obviously wouldn't be showing us this stuff if it didn't serve a purpose, so it must be leading somewhere. Having some Phantom Limb/Billy Quizboy teamup or fight would be great.

The overall best written show on TV, followed by Dexter, Breaking Bad and Peep Show. Why VB is the best written show is the shear breadth of the characters and plot. Factor in that the show is written primarily by ONE guy and you have a winner.

This was a weird episode. Oh sure...it was funny, but kind of sad as well. I'm amazed at how much they're willing to flesh out the characters backstories instead of going for the cheap and easy jokes. And it looks like they're building a huge season-long story arc. My God this show rocks...now if only someone somewhere would make some damn Venture Bros. merchandise!!!

Not really one the best episodes. Two weeks ago we already got a glimpse into the origins of the VB universe and now we're mining that same territory again? Plot is important but at the expense of comedy? Plus things are getting really incestuous now just like the Star Wars prequels. Why tie in Billy's backstory to Phantom Limb at all?

We now know -- more than ever -- that all of these characters' lives are intertwined. Hell, we learned tonight whose the mothers of Hank and Dean. Why? THEY ARE BUILDING TOWARDS SOMETHING. Jackson and Doc have decided to go LOST on our asses. If you are down with some JAMES FORD SHEMANIGANS (Shenanigans to the next level), then brace yourself for a season that builds to awesomeness. It also builds to season four where we learn even more about the characters, but behold the next 9 or 10 great episodes of Lockegasms!

Matrix Reloaded Warning!
by NOVAJimBo
Jun 16th, 2008

Kids, Please be very careful with the backstory. In 1999 the bset movie ever made came out. It is called the Matrix. It told a great story with lots of action and left so many questions about how and why the world got that way. Then Matrix Reloaded came out and ruined the Matrix universe. It turns out that the backstory and details are ungodly boring and unnessesary. The Venture Bros is my favorite show. Please don't ruin it by telling me too much boring mudane crap that I don't care about. Just give me adventure and laughs. Thanks in advance.

Seem to indicate that it's set in present day. It's funny, because there was an episode in Season 2 where multiple people (including Billy) speculated about what Phantom Limb's origin story was. Thank God for memory wipes, even if they don't work all the time.

go fucking kill yourself." Classic. Got to love Col. Gathers. Shore Leave c'mon that's to funny and Race casually making small talk right after he tortured a guy to death. This is the best cartoon period. Maybe the best TV show too. Poor Billy always getting nozzled. I can see him joining the Phantom Limb by the seasons end. The janitor scraping Richard Impossible's name off the door was a nice touch too. I could watch a whole series on OSI alone.
Intertwined Origin Tales
by GOB Adama
Jun 16th, 2008
09:23:33 AM
Origins stories that intertwine incredulously are a staple of many of the genres that "Venture Bros." parodies. They touched on it directly when it was revealed how many characters were at college together and this season is taking it further. It could be seen as a gamble, but I'd say the odds are in Astrobase's favor.
The reason for all these backstory episodes

This is from Jackson Publicks blog:

I won't spoil it or anything for those of you who'd rather wait until it's on TV Sunday night, but "The Invisible Hand of Fate" was the first episode to be written and produced for season 3, mainly because I originally planned to write it as the penultimate episode of season 2...before the finale got away from us and turned into a two-parter. Given some of the secret histories revealed within, you can well imagine why I would have wanted to shed some light on these particular characters before launching into the finale story. But it was worth the wait, I think. For the record, I wouldn't have aired this one third in an ideal world, but production deadlines forced our invisible hand. While I'm quite proud of the episode, I worry that throwing another secondary character/flashback-heavy episode at you guys so soon after our Monarch-centric premiere could be a bit confusing--or, worse yet, kind of disappointing--and the episode mightn't get judged fairly on its own merits. But whatever...hopefully you're all into it. And if you're not, there's always next week's episode, "Home Is Where The Hate Is," which is a super-hot Doc & Jackson joint script (and, for no particular reason, probably the most beautifully animated episode of The Venture Bros. ever) and would have aired third if not for the fact that we're still mixing it!

The GI Joe parody, Race Bannon in a bloody apron after torturing a Sphinx grunt, and Myra verbally making the bionic 'na-na-na-na-na-na' sounds as she broke away from OSI custody. Freaking. Brilliant. The world badly needs an Office of Secret Intelligence spinoff show. Centered on Jacob Squire and his talking super-car along with his partner Stupid Stupid Donnagan. Guest starring the Nozzle.

White returning to Venture compound
by fiester
Jun 16th, 2008
07:21:50 PM
...the scene where white returns to the Venture compound and talks to Dr. Venture through the intercom is set in the present day, even though it occurs midway through the episode--he says he needs ot see Brock and he is bringing the knocked out Billy to Venture compound presumably for a fresh memory wipe.

So the entire episode has three framing scenes: on at the beginning, one at the mid way, and the end coda.
