I don't like movies that suck. And IMO TRANSFORMERS sucked. Royally. In fact, I've not seen anything from Michael Bay that hasn't sucked. And yes, that includes THE ROCK. Based upon his track record I doubt the Mr. Bay will produce anything I'll ever enjoy. So color me a skeptic. As always, IMO and YMMV. BTW, I have several friends who enjoyed TRANSFORMERS. And I don't think any less of them. What one finds entertaining is subjective and I've learned to just leave it at that. But I do love making fun a certain film makers and films.

Micheal Bay's Transformers is one of those movies that was cool to see in the theatres, for the special effects alone, but on further viewings you start to realize how insanely stupid it really is. I realize I only saw it because I was curious, I was a fan of Transformers as a kid, and that I wanted it to be good. But now the curiousity is gone, it was nothing resembling what I liked as a kid, and it wasn't good. I fully understand that you hate Bay and hate Transformers, but it is unfair to say that ANYONE who enjoyed Transformers is an undemanding, idiotic sheep. Speaking for myself only, I know exactly what to expect when it comes to Michael Bay films. Trash that is entertaining. That is what the man makes. Same music in every movie, sterotypical paper thin characters (with the lone exception, IMHO, being John Mason from The Rock), lots of explosions and a paper thin plot to move things along. I never profess that he is a great filmmaker, but the fact that I enjoy his films does not make me undemanding, nor does not make me the lowest common denominator. There are certian directors I expect great things from and therfore I am greatly dissapointed when I get less that what I expect. I don't expect great things from Bay, therefore I am not usually dissapointed. But you seem to think that because you see him as the worst thing in modern cinema today, that nobody in their right mind has a right to enjoy what he does. In it Buster Witwicky has the Creation Matrix (a cybertronian program used to grant life to transformers) transferred to him by Optimus Prime's head, which was decapitated by Shockwave for the purpose of harvesting the Matrix to create a new generation of decepticons. Buster found later that he could perform entire engine rebuilds, instantaneously, using only his mind. He used this new-found talent to keep Sparkplug's garage in business while his dad was laid-up in the hospital, recovering from a heart attack. Those were the best TF stories ever. Written by Bud Budiansky, the guy who wrote those tech spec cards on the backs of all the toy packages.

As I have stated before, what one finds entertaining is subjective and should be left at that. It’s totally reasonable to say, “In my opinion, X MOVIE sucks.” It’s unreasonable to say, “If you like X MOVIE you suck.” People enjoy movies for many reasons and no one has an absolute frame of reference by which to judge others. You diminish your own standing when you do not recognize the opinions of others. Having strong convections is awesome. Not recognizing/respecting the convections of others is not. As usual, IMO and YMMV.

I too want to see better care taken in making films, becauee honestly, movies have been in a downward spiral since the early 90's, with fewer and fewer quality films coming out. (Very rarely do you find a film that does all three). And like most forms of art, a film will either appeal to viewer...or it won't. So, attacking people for liking one piece of crap (TRANSFORMERS) over another piece of crap (THE HAPPENING / THE DEVILS REJECTS) is stupid and a colossal waste of time. Just to clarify, I am a guy. Also, I have 3 small children that like to go to the movies. Now I am not the kind of parent that won't take his kids to the movies because I don't care for what they are gonna see. I'm not making excuses, beleive me, I will admit I did want to see Transformers, and despite the fact that I enjoyed it, I did want more out of it than the typical Bay destructo-fest. That being said, sometimes I am forced to pay for and sit through movies I don't like because I am a parent. I will admit most of the time I enjoy what I take my kids to see, but trust me, not always. But that's something you do as a parent, sometimes you have to suffer a bit to make your kids happy, and that's fine with me. That certianlly is not an excuse for seeing bad movies, just some of the time, and most of the time I feel my taste in films is pretty consistent.

When I took my kids to see Superman Returns, I had such a great time just watching them, the awe, the wonderment on their faces, makes it all worthwhile. Watching my daughter at the end, when Superman was in the hospital, she had tears in her eyes, asking me "is Superman going to die daddy?" it's just one of those moments you love being a parent. And yes, sometimes the things they come up with crack me up. Being a parent is the toughest job you will ever love.
