It sickened me when he won an Oscar for the Pianist and everyone gave the guy a standing ovations. That was the last Oscar telecast I have ever watch. If Polanski was an investment banker who had the multiple cases of sleeping with children like Polanski has and decided to move into Malibu, the Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, etc.; I bet these same people who stood up and cheered Polanski would be the first to lead efforts to have the pediphile ousted from the community. I'm sorry there is no grey area in this. Polanski at best consentually slept with a 13 year old (his claim) and a 15 year old (we know he slept with Natassia Kinski at that age). From the description posted above it sounds like it was a horrible experience for the girl it happened to, but try this on for size before you crucify Polanski: His family was killed by Nazis when he was a kid, during WW2 he roamed the countryside of Poland taking shelter with families who took him in, then emigrated to the US, in time became a famous film director, and then his wife got murdered by Charles Manson, a guy who became even more famous than Polanski was-- BECAUSE he murdered Polanski's wife! You think this isn't gonna make a dude have some major issues, well you're wrong. And throw a dude with some major issues into the already very sketchy atmosphere of sexual/chemical permissiveness that was Hollywood in the late 60s and you are gonna have some fucked up shit happen. But jesus christ people, you act like he has been some sort of serial child rapist ever since. you think 40 years can't change a man? I agree that living in a mansion in France with his hot wife and 2 children while directing A List celebrities over the years like Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, and Nicholas Cage is far worse than spending the rest of his life in a maximum security prison. If OJ was a good actor, he would be the toast of Hollywood right now. Personally, I don't treat Polanski any differently than I would treat any child rapist. The chick who made it has already had to make 2 edits to it following it's initial airing to correct unsubstantiated accusations made in the film. Was the trial mishandled? Yes. Does that have anything to do with whether or not Polanski has actually paid for his crime? No. Has she forgiven him? I've read that she has but it sounds more like she wants to move on with her life than actually forgive him. Either way, it doesn't matter what she thinks. He committed a crime and just because she's moved on doesn't mean he should get away with it. I can't wait for this site to grow a pair and actually take a stand AGAINST someone in Hollywood who's done something as awful as Polanski did. Rape is not a capital crime. A capital crime is one where the penalty can be death. France also doesn't have an extradition treaty with the U.S. and very rarely, if ever, cooperate in matters like this. There was a little hubbub a few years ago because he was suing Vanity Fair for an article they had written about in in British courts. He was worried that he would have to appear in England to testify which would have put him at risk for extradition. Unfortunately, I believe they let him testify by video feed.

Yes, the judge in this case did engage in some severe judgicial misconducts. That still doesn't change what Polanski did one iota. In this case, two wrongs definitely do not make a right. It is two wrongs definitely makes a wrong. Besides, there are plenty of cases of average people being victims of judicial misconducts as bad or worse who end up forever being pariah in society. Actually, the judge was supposably about to give Polanski the maximum sentence which would have given up to 50 years in jail. He did in fact act improperly by staging argumments in the courtroom for motions he already decided to with both councils in chambers, disregarding psycholical evaluations, etc. I felt that Polanski would have gotten far too light of sentence if the judge acted properly (42 days in jail), but the judge was out of control even if he would have given Polanski a more proper sentence to his actual crime if he was able to follow through with sentencing.

Polanski is a good director, but he (self-admittedly) raped a child. You can argue the merits of the films, but, not the man. He (Polanski) is indefensible by any rational definition... cause no sane person would try to defend a pervert who ass-raped a child.

We are talking about a man who sleeps with children, one of those children he probably drugged and raped. We aren't talking about an adulteror. As for Polanski's life prior to him raping the child, who cares? Do you know how many murders and rapists have the similiar tramas in their lives yet never have people making excuses for them. Many child rapists were raped as children. As for the other people you mentioned, there is doubt whether Michael Jackson (one of his accusers were caught lying) or Kobe are guilty. Even so, I would not support either in any way. I wouldn't give OJ the lint from my pocket to save his life. I have no idea what Herzog did wrong. I still don't get the defense of a man who is an ADMITTED pedophile. Who raped Samatha Geimer at age 13 and then within months started to date 15 year old Natassia Kinski (possibly before the rape). God forbid you are ever the father of a 13 year old who is raped and people tell you it is no big deal because the rapist's wife was violently murder so you should just get over it because he is a victim too.

So it is the victim's fault now? Really?!? You want to go there? She was at Polanski's house because he was doing a photoshoot of her for French Vogue. Maybe today a parent would never let their 13 year old daughter along with a middle aged man after years of horror stories on the news, but whole pedophile thing was not readily known back then. People still slept with their doors unlucked back then. Funny, I don't don't think it was ok for a 44 year old man to give quaaluds and then have sex with a 13 year old girl even in the 70s or Hollywood. You don't see Brad Pitt dating Dakota Fanning or Matthew McConaughey dating Abigail Breslin. Another weak argument from Polanski defenders. There is no excuse for his actions. What next? It was the victim's mother's fault (that is a favorite of Polanski's friends).
