After the guy says "begin the evacuation," I can't identify that piece. The next piece, something of a 'march,' is definitely Zimmerish. It may be from The Rock, or Con Air or Armageddon (which I know aren't Zimmer, it's Rabin, but it's damn close). The last piece (with choir) is Gothic Power, generic trailer music #12 ;)

Wow, you waited half an hour? Yes, it's from the Crow soundtrack, and I can probably tell you exactly where in the movie that cue turns up, because I've seen it so many times. But that's beside the point. This movie looks dodgy. Shot on dv? John Malkovitch in another phoned-in low budget performance? Shot on freakin dv?!?

SKY CAPTAIN, whilst occasionally lacking in the script stakes, was a fantastic piece of work to look at - beautifully shot and with seamless CGI. 300, meanwhile, is the most garish gay war cartoon ever made. Which is not to say it ain't fun to watch, but come on - this trailer alone contains more plot than all of 300! And yet you guys call it down already?!? Fuck... At least WATCH IT before ripping it to shreds. The WW1 imagery mixed with the monastic stuff and a future mutant war setting sounds awesome - and yes, it looks a bit SKY CAPTAIN cinematographically. So? That fucking rocks if you're a steampunk/sci-fi fan! So if you don't like a bit of moody lighting and cinematography, and you DON'T want to see a mish-mash genre hybrid that does look at least original, fuck off back to your flawless-CGI-photo-real explosive can't-see-what-the-fuck-is-goi ng-on blurry fistfights between two giant 1980s toy robots in BAYFORMERS. THAT is what an addiction to perfect FX and modern movie sensibilities gets you. The only worthy thing in that fucking movie is Megan Fox. Those of us who like a little originality and thought with our movies may give this one the benefit of the fucking doubt.

Jesus...

looks to be the opposite of every identikit remake/reimagining/re-dropping -a-huge-shit currently stinking up the joint in Hollywood. Originality is EXACTLY what movies (particularly sci-fi movies) need right now. So don't pull this shit down - celebrate it! So it doesn't have a gazillion dollars in its budget - it's fucking DIFFERENT. That's still good, isn't it?

Ron Perlman could leave the make-up room not covered in prostectics? Is this the movie that AICN threw up a poster of a while back, and it looked like a poster for Lost? Either way this movie looks tighter then shit, and at the same time looks like that Nazi's from Mars trailer Twich had a while back. Though I still feel like Thomas Jane will never top Deep Blue Sea, its obvious Renny Harlin won't.

Whatever happened to that Jim Caviezel sci-fi flick OUTLANDER? That was written about and supposedly finished years ago. Basically an alien crashes on earth about 1300 years ago and accidentally unleashed a different alien monster on a bunch of vikings. There's lots of swordplay and carnage that ensue. (Stars Jim Caviezel, Sophia Myles, Jack Huston, John Hurt, and Ron Perlman)

Who gives a fuck who that is? I've seen this a lot in movies now a days, like the Cloverfield guy that wasn't JJ and whos name was all over the trailers. I don't understand the reasoning behind this. I am pretty sure John Malcovic/Pearlmen and even Jane are kind of known to Average Joe public. The only director people know are Speilburg and Lucas, and M. Knight but only for the twist shit. I mean is it part of the directors deal to get his name thrown in the trailer like it means something? Or does it mean that a studio really likes something and maybe sees something in this guy and want to make him a brand name. Any ideas?

I like the sepia tones and the feel it conveys. So, I'm happy to wait and keep an eye on it. Unlike some people here, it's better to make an informed opinion then just spew out bullshit. It's interesting that AICN attracts so many complainers and whiners. Maybe it's just the internet, because they can whine, complain and remain anonymous. Eragon was a piece of doo-doo, but my young kids liked it so that made it worth the price of admission. Plus, having worked in the industry I realize that the suits are usually the ones who fuck things up with the premise of making them 'better'. Knowing this, I always cut the director and writer some slack unless (informed opinion here again) I've heard different.

...but it looked good. All of Emmerich's movies are like that... shitty, preposterous, badly acted Z-List flicks that look great. Here's how you watch an Emmerich flick: Ignore the thing until the tidal wave washes over NYC, then say "Cooo-oool!", then turn it off before the main character have to outrace coldness on foot. Same with 10,000 BC... ignore all the boring caveman bollocks, enjoy the mammoth hunt, ignore the mystical old cavecrone and her mumblings, enjoy yhe cool sabertooth and the killer emus, turn the thing off before it gets to the pyramid-building Atlantean who talks in Jaye Davidsons "Ra-voice" from Stargate. Oh... and only watch Emmerich movies on rented Blu-Ray discs you got from NetFlix... never blow $10 on seeing it in a theatre.

This Talkback is really gonna show the studio suits that we're all for originality. Not. I mean ok, the effects don't look great, but the idea sounds kick-ass and it does have 3 really great actors in it who we don't get to see nearly enough of (two of which don't seem to be phoning their roles in at all), and the story does sound interesting. ...it actualy told us what the movie was about which is, "Mutant Chronicles follows 23rd century soldiers Major Mitch Hunter (Thomas Jame) and Brother Samuel’s (Ron Perlman) mission to fight against an army of underworld mutants in attempt to save the planet." I guess they didn't show us the mutants because they're saving that for later. My biggest pick against the trailer is it's so dark it was hard to see what's going on. Regarding the music, it sounded like an uninspired rehash of scores from Chronicles of Riddick, Transformers and National Treasure.

What's it really about? Have you noticed trailers don't give you that sense anymore? It's like the directors aren't sure of the story until AFTER the final cut. Visuals, yes, that's nice. It looks interesting. But until I get some sense of what it's about, it's a renter. And honestly - the whole mutant thing's getting really old. Anything that mutates you sufficently to be noticeable by others is almost certain to kill you in infancy. That's how genetics work. The X-Men would most likely have both flippers and tentacles with extra nipples, mouths, ears and eyes. You know, like Obama.

Why is it almost black and fucking white and all sepia-toned shit? I couldn't tell what the fuck was happening except for some shitty CGI, horrible Malkovich, a one-millisecond shot of Thomas Jane, and someone taking a spear to the face. No mutants either.

Looks cheap and shitty.

I just think you are being unfair. I understand you were looking forward to this, and now you have been let down by the preview. Fair enough. I'm not a sycophant though, I just thought it was a rather nice gesture on Jane's part and perhaps it didn't deserve to be so roundly shat upon. However, people are entitled to their honest opinions (which I'm sure these are) and I have no right to call them wankers for it.

It is just frustrating to see interesting, low-budget sci-fi killed in the crib purely because it doesn't have the glossy look of some big by-the-numbers studio release.

That looked pretty tasty. I like the overall "darkness" of it, since ostensibly some pretty horrible shit has caused mutants to infest the inner part of the planet.

The way I see it, there's darkness to look cool for no reason, and then there's darkness to set the visual and emotional palette of a story. Although this trailer could've been cut better, with more to sink our teeth into, I like the feel of it. The story seems desperate, bloody, and violent. Which I like a hell of a lot more than safe, insipidly stupid, and PG-13.

Plus, did anyone check out the cast on imdb.com? Damn. That's a fucking great ensemble.

The only thing I worry about with a movie like this is: in the face of such gloom, are there funny moments to counterbalance the seriousness of the story? Know what I mean? Too much darkness equals me not taking the story seriously. Because even in horrific circumstances, humans find ways to release humor. Soldiers, ambulance drivers, war nurses, generals... and the best stories give us more than just constipatedly serious expressions. Someone needs to tell Uwe Boll this (not that the steroid-bloated fucker would listen).

So far, I'm onboard with "Mutant Chronicles".

Agreed, TELF. I'd like to see more quality R-rated movies hit our theaters. Even if a film is low-budget, as "Mutant Chronicles" seems to be (could they afford THAT cast on a low-budget, though? hmm), I'm all for orginal, hard-hitting stories. Plus director Simon Hunter is a relative unknown, which to me works in his favor. New style, new ideas... so far, so good.

All the sets look tiny. All the shots look really tight. The set dressing looks minimal. The costume effects look naff. Can I also say that I thought that the trailer was underwhelming. I'd stick a few shots of the enemy in there at the top because I came away from it with no feel for the conflict in the story. "He will follow you!" wft? Who is "He?" and why would it be such a bad thing for one person to follow you? The mysteries thrown up don't feel large enough to make me want to see more of them. But then it still sounds like early days. I'm hoping it turns out to be great but that only based on a liking of the premise.

because this has too much going for it to be the piece of crap that all the negative snarkmeisters are tagging it to be. Shitting on a movie just to show how witty you are has the opposite effect if this turns out to be an exciting, fun and whaddya know, original flick. I don't think Jane has anything to worry about. Take what the negative bandwagon TB'ers say with a grain of salt. They all need to be sheered this time of year. I say "Cool news, sounds great!"

I dont think anyone takes pleasure out of saying they're disappointed by this or any preview. If they "shit on it" by providing reasons for that disappointment then I think they are usually giving evidence to backup their point of view. Also its easy to take the moral high ground and attack others for being negative but remember that YOU are rubbishing other peoples opinions (and thereby the people themselves) while all they're doing is critising art. So who're the bad guys here yay-sayers?

that this movie will not come close to clearing its budget in box office (much less doubling to clear the theater's take of the profits), but studio executives give it the greenlight? I don't care how cheap they tried to make this grand epic for, it'll still seem too expensive by the time this movie's done its weak, one-month run in theaters. (Then again, I didn't expect Alvin and the Chipmunks to be a colossal blockbuster.) Not that box office is a barometer of artistic merit, but still, from the money-backers' POV, movies like this surprise me.

Quote = superman5150 "Whatever happened to that Jim Caviezel sci-fi flick OUTLANDER? That was written about and supposedly finished years ago. Basically an alien crashes on earth about 1300 years ago and accidentally unleashed a different alien monster on a bunch of vikings. There's lots of swordplay and carnage that ensue. (Stars Jim Caviezel, Sophia Myles, Jack Huston, John Hurt, and Ron Perlman)" It finished filming the begining of last year, but the actual film and effects weren't done until jan/feb of this year. It should be out in Europe in the next few months but I have no clue what the Weinstein Co. have planned. They've been staying pretty hush about it. The movie looks pretty cool though. The fangoria guys liked it when they saw it in the Cannes market.

Therealumlaut, can I ask: what is "yu jok"? Is it "Are you joking?" Because that sentence would be more effectively written in English.

Are you texting from your phone? Because "Yu jok" looks like it could be a text-compressed squirt of blah, after which you wrote (with three exclamation points!!!) "Looks awwww-fullllll!!!" Therefore it's obvious you CAN type in English.

I'm confused. What's the deal?

And yes this currently looks low budget, but if its done well with story and character(which no one can tell from this, other than most of the content looks typical)it could be a fun time. If the story and the people are there, then the special effects don't look bad enough to detract. The problem will be trying to draw out flesh and blood characters amidst this heavy style. I think as entertainments Sky Captain and 300 worked well, but right now this looks more Casshern than those. And even so, the highly stylized films still need better character work. Dark City is to me an example of a highly stylized film firing on all it's cylinders.

I'll grant you that some of the TB'ers actually may have formed a cogent thought as to why they don't like a trailer for a film that is yet to be completed. But look closely at the other 97% of the comments and tell me that they aren't just joining the mob. Count up all the "Looks awful" or "Looks like shit" or the ever popular "boring" comments that don't say anything more than that and tell me they don't make up the majority of the bleating sheep negativity that is all too often found here. There is always that element of anonymity to the internet that lends itself to people who like to piss on a thread or go along with the crowd because they can't form an opinion of their own. Sure, we all come here to be edified about what might be good movie-making coming up on the horizon, but the intelligent posters here at least form rational and reasoned thoughts about whether they like or dislike something. I have enjoyed this site for a long time but let's not fool ourselves; the freedom it provides is also a breeding ground for mouth breathers who conform to the nearest thought thrown at them. Some just go the pigphart route and spew the same monotonous drone for everything. "This sucks!!" "Harry, you're a retard!!" I actually think that what pigphart5000 is doing is actually a great statement about the state of AICN. Or he's just being a goof. But if we are ALL entitled to our opinions, then I am entitled to my opinion that the majority of negative commenters are just cattle going along with the herd.

I like Thomas Jane a lot and I hope this turns out good. Overall, the property and plot for this thing could make for a fun genre film, but all that said...sorry, this teaser is totally WEAK and looks slapped together. For crying out loud, unless you set out to preach to the converted (those who know the property to begin with) who the hell could watch that convoluted and overly dark mess and come away with any idea of "what" it is or is really about -- which is the whole POINT of a teaser, to get people interested. The editing was random and seemingly pointless, the CGI looks shaky, the photography looks dark and muddy, and there's not even a single line of dialogue that stands out.

Seriously, I don't mean to come off as someone bagging on something for the sake of bagging on it, but that teaser really was cut as bad and LOOKED as bad as a Sci-Fi Channel movie. In which case the only thing missing from it was a freakin' giant snake, at which point we could officially redub this BOA vs. MUTANTS or maybe MUTANT CHRONICLES OF KOMODO ISLAND...

And none of you fans liked that. Do people on this site hate movies that AREN'T made for £100 mil plus? Because on the budget they have (go see their production offices on the making of shorts on YouTube, they're pitifully small) this looks OK. As for 300 - fucking same sky in practically every shot, more abs than a re-run of TOP GUN's basketball match looped for a year, slow-mo to fast-mo battle shots, that stupid voice Butler had, the whole homophobic vibe (oiled up hard-as-nails Spartans = GOOD, androgynous and therefore sexually adventurous Persians = BAD) - 300 was piss poor compared to the greatness that was DAWN OF THE DEAD. And we have WATCHMEN to come. Jeebus...

Yes, this looks generic - at this point I think most post-apocalyptic movies will look alike. DEATH RACE looks fucking MAD MAX 2 generic, but doesn't mean I won't enjoy it - Chev Chelios The Road Warrior? FUCK YEAH! And this could be great too. Could also be shite, but until Games Workshop pull their heads out their fucking arses and gets with a proper hard-R well-written WARHAMMER 40K movie, this will keep us going.

Oh, and THE PUNISHER sucked because the studio wouldn't go with Jane's suggestion that they should use a Garth Ennis story for the movie. The Ennis bits they DID use were the only decent bits in it (The Russian vs Punisher fight, for one). I'd love to see Jane do PUNISHER: THE SLAVERS.

Besides, Thomas Jane did THURSDAY. That's a free pass for me to see ANYTHING he does, becuase THURSDAY FUCKING ROCKED!!!

What sucked about THURSDAY?

Seriously, you'd have to explain why that movie sucked, because I just don't get that - at all. And as for MUTANT CHRONICLES looking like shit... hey, I'd get people not enjoying SKY CAPTAIN - not everyone digs on the 1920s inspiration for that movie - fair enough. But the MUTANT CHRONICLES is just dark and sepis toned - so why does that suck but 300 not? As fun as it is, 300 is just a big gay fight movie with very bad (intentionally so, I think - part of the GN's aesthetic) CGI backdrops and a complete lack of plot. Gimme MUTANT over 300 any day.

Seriously... what was wrong with THURSDAY? Not big-budget enough?

theres no pleasing some people - sky captain is awesome - still - 300 is great - still - and this looks like it will be very cool - wow, what a premise - im glad to see its a fully realized world - its made by fans of the genre (comics and movies both) and has a great cast - what more do you want - i just wish theyd finish tinkering and release it - an imax version would be cool - the reason we dont see any mutants in the teaser (except for that bone blade) is because its a "teaser" - in my opinion too much of hulk was seen in the trailers - and kong too - i felt like i had seen the movies before actually seeing them
