I've been waiting to want to see a Jean Claude Van Damme film for a while (I think Street Fighter was the last one I really wanted to see... and I was in junior high school!).

I think Blood Sport may have been the first "R" rated film I ever saw. Awesome.

a sense of humor about past mistakes can totally resurect a career in this industry. i keep hearing good things and cope it hits us soon. i really hope he's able to get back into making films, with roles that we'd never expect him to take.

I really don't know why people hate him so much. He made some enjoyable movies and some less enjoyable movies. However, the dude has charisma and coolness that a lot of actors don't have. He should be getting better roles because I am sure he can handle it. And it's time to see JCVD as the bad guy once again, but then in a big budget movie. He will steal the show for sure.

I actually agree with you am not being sarcastic either. I saw him on a Uk chat show years ago and he was a riot could'nt believe he was making the crap films he was waay back then when he clearly had star quality. His story about Arnie and how when he went upto him to introduce him to some up and coming Director and said "Arnie someday this Director will be HUGE!!" to which Arnie replied "Why not Ze everyday" and then walked off chomping on his Cigar......I dunno fella maybe its the alledged time he spent snorting too much coke that has fucked his career up or the die slow rumours (he has lost weight) which seem to dog him in certain circles. I think that maybe why noone has given him another chance.

The funniest, yet saddest and most embarrassing, thing I ever saw concerning Van Damme happened years ago on an E! special at Cannes Film Festival. Van Damme was prowling around, drunk or stoned, and Jules Asner was interviewing him. He ended the interview by trying to come on to her and all but gave her his hotel room key. I think he thought the cameras weren't rolling anymore.

Actually has had some fun with his image, particularly in the Pepsi (I think) ads he did a few years ago, and his appearance in "The Onion Movie". Sadly, while JCVD tries to do good work with talented untried directors, Seagal doesn't even bother to show up for his own dubbing sessions. He just doesn't care anymore, it would appear, and would rather be in a club with his "band" then in Roumania making another DTV piece of crap.

As do most time travel movies. Answer me this talkbackers, when Van Damme eventually saves his wife in the past and changes the future... Why is he shocked to see her and his son alive when he gets home? You can't answer this because it defies logic. I have yet to see a time travel movie that doesn't have serious flaws in continuity. There will never be a good time travel movie! Don't get me started on the Butterfly effect either! I know this post is a bit off topic but I just caught Timecop on AMC last week and this point bugged me once again. Thoughts on this?

There are 2 kinds of time travel schemes that work
by bottombrick
Sep 5th, 2008
04:43:56 PM
One type where no changes are actually made, the journey back was always contained in the timeline (a la 12 Monkeys) and the other type has branching timelines and the travelers aren't changed by changes they make (because the timeline they originate from is intact). However in the second type if you tried to go home in the changed timeline the alternate you would be there kicking it, so Timecop is not logically consistent. Still kicks ass though. I dig the style of the henchman from the future ('04), wearing shin guards, trenchcoats, and rocking mullet perms.

wouldnt the 04 van damme cease to exist? by saving himself and his wife in 1994 he would either a)no longer exist, b) come back to his own timeline which would be unchanged, while and alternate version of him exists in a tangent universe, with his still alive wife, c) he would have memories of both losing and saving his wife and the 2 past versions of the last 10 years (ala frequency) because he is both his past and future self, or d) when he comes back to 04 there would be a doppleganger version of himself with his wife. it fries the brain. this is why time travel doesnt work.

Everyone I've spoken to who've seen this movie claims it is the shit. The most common claim was that as when Van Damme gets to speak his native tongue, he's actually an extremely talented, emotionally raw actor. Hard to believe, I know, but so many people have told me this now, that based on their word and that awesome trailer, I will be there for this with a vengeance.
