The Rock

Leaving Las Vegas

National Treasure

Unless by 'winning streak' you mean "last two movies" then okay I get it. But honestly, you talk as if he's not made a successful film in 20 years, and the truth is if you look at the stats, he's had quite a few big hits - seems like about every other movie he is in makes a good amount of cash. Thats about average for mid-level Hollywood leads.

I like Cage. I like National Treasure 1 & 2. I like Michael Bay & Jerry Bruckheimer. What I don't like is Cage's hair color in this film. Dying hair black peeves me because it never and I mean NEVER looks good. Black hair die makes real hair look fake and fake hair is so damn distracting that all I can see or think about is what a shitty dye job and who does this f-cker think he or she is fooling. Sorry Nicolas, but I had to get that off my chest.

adaptation was pretty sure fire. great cast/director.

8mm was schumacher CRAP.

leaving las vegas was a very well written script.

i wouldn't say any of those were "risks"...except 8mm, but that didn't pan out (for me). nicholas cage is (now) boring again. there seems to be minimal effort on his part

which is a shame, because i have liked him before.

The Original

I loved the original of this and once I saw the trailer with Cage TALKING, I was totally horrified that they made the movie that way. It would have been a better movie had Cage NOT talked like the Joe in the original Thai version, which is heartbreaking and brutal in it's own way. It's a shame that the Pang Bros have sold out as it were and just put out sub-par movies now that they have bigger budgets to work with. They need to stick with smaller budgets because they have made some good movies with less money.

Bangkok is a fantastic city. I've been there a few times, and am going back in November. It's an incredible place, full of amazing things. The food is absolutely incredible. The food you buy off the street is great; yes, the women are all that you imagine and more; the poverty is crippling, the modernism of downtown Bangkok is amazing too. There's a huge aquarium right underneath a major shopping center downtown with a frozen super-giant squid in it. The statues of the Bhuddas everywhere and the temples are amazing.

You should watch it because I hear they really do show off all that Bangkok has to offer, and I suspect I will recognize a lot of the places they show. If you get tired of Bangkok, btw, go to Phuket, just down south, for one of the best little-known resort islands in the world but one of the top 5 scuba diving destinations. Right where I learned to dive.

One of the things I liked so much about the deaf-mute assassin was the way the directors played up the fact that he was so good at what he did because, not being able to hear the gunshot, he never blinked his eyes at the sound of the bang. (For those of you who saw it, remember the super-slow motion shot of the main character firing a gun, the bullet ejecting from the barrel, but his eyes staying open the whole time? Fantastic!) The character’s inability to hear gave him an intense, zen-like aura, which has undoubtedly been excised from the remake.

I think I’ll pass.

(Oh, and 8MM is a piece of crap! ADAPTATION, brilliant. BRINGING OUT THE DEAD, brilliant. 8MM shouldn’t be mentioned when talking about good Cage vehicles.)

Cage needs a script reader
by TVguy4566
Sep 5th, 2008
11:50:12 AM
I don't think there is another actor who has A-List potential who picks worse scripts. Even his biggest hits over the last decade have been more lucky than a solid story. Face Off was a horrible movie script-wise, but it was an enjoyable action flick because of Cage's and Travolta's performances and Woo's direction. Same thing with Con Air which was saved by the performances by solid actors.

I still don't get why the National Treasures were hits. They were nothing but Indiana Jones rip offs.

Snake Eyes is arguably one of Brian DePalma's worst movies. Wicker Man was unwatchable. 8MM was daring for the subject matter, but was rather boring considering the subject matter. Ghost Rider was only a few notches about the Fantastic Four movies in terms of comics movies.

The sad thing for him is that he could be one of the premiere action stars in the world right now if he knew how to pick the right movies. Maybe he has Vin Deisel reading his scripts.

Here is every movie this loser has appeared in in the last 15 years:

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009) --I shudder to think….
Bangkok Dangerous (2008) --Horrible.
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) --I want to slap his toupee off.
Next (2007) --Terrible.
Grindhouse (2007) --Good cameo. Less is more.
Ghost Rider (2007) --Fuck you.
The Wicker Man (2006) --An insult to a true classic.
World Trade Center (2006) --Heavy-handed, hammy, boring.
The Ant Bully (2006) (voice) --Satisfactory.
The Weather Man (2005) --Horrible.
Lord of War (2005) --Generic and tripe.
National Treasure (2004) --This is a franchise?
Matchstick Men (2003) --“Please think of me as an actor”
Adaptation. (2002) --The best thing he’s ever done.
Windtalkers (2002) --Horrible.
Christmas Carol: The Movie (2001) --Meh. It sucked. Not his fault.
Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) --Braindead.
The Family Man (2000) --Substitute Greg Kinnear. No change.
Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) --Crap.
Bringing Out the Dead (1999) --The third best thing he’s done.
8MM (1999) --Cheese-Cheese-cheese.
Snake Eyes (1998) --Crap.
City of Angels (1998) --Crap.
Face/Off (1997) --Not good.
Con Air (1997) --Drop the bunny.
The Rock (1996) --His least offensive action movie.
Leaving Las Vegas (1995) --second best thing he’s done.
Kiss of Death (1995/I) --lame
Trapped in Paradise (1994) --Lame
It Could Happen to You (1994) --Crap.
Guarding Tess (1994) --Crap.
Amos & Andrew (1993) --What the fuck. Samuel L. wasted
Deadfall (1993) --Anyone remember this? I thought not.

So yeah… I can TOTALLY see why he’s a great actor….

Right up there with all time greats like John Larroquette and Steve Guttenberg.

Con Air was just dumb cotton candy of a movie. It wasn't a good movie, but it was a mild guilty pleasure of a movie because it was so dumb and loud. And I do believe that good actors who don't take their material too seriously in a a dumb action movie can raise it above stupid dreak status.

Con Air was a bad movie, but it was a fun bad movie. It is a movie you go in and turn your mind off for 2 hours. Sometimes those movies are worth the price of admission or at least a DVD rental or a watching on cable.

Crazy old Nic Cage. Hmmm.

Lafou, I'm afraid I've been thinking

[Lefou:] A dangerous pastime

[Hollywood:] I know

But that whacky old coot is a Mega Star

And his sanity's only "so-so"

Now the wheels in my head have been turning

Since I gave an Oscar to that loony, old man

See, I've promised myself he'd make smart decisions by now

And right now I'm evolving a plan

If I . . . {whisper}

[LeFou:] Yes?

[Hollywood:]Then we . . . {whisper}

[LeFou:]No! Would they? . . .

[Hollywood:]{whisper} Guess!

[LeFou:] Now I get it!

[Both:] Let's go!

No one chooses terrible roles like Nic Cage

[Hollywood:] Punches women like the Cage

[LeFou:] Acts like a mad man to earn a pay check like Nic Cage.

[Hollywood] Yes, his endlessly, wildly entertaining

[LeFou:] As down to the depths he descends

[Hollywood:] He won't even be mildly remorseful

[Both:] Just as long as he gets what he wants in the end

[Hollywood:] Who has brains like Nic Cage? [LeFou:] Entertains like Nic Cage?

[Both:] Who can make up these endless refrains like Nic Cage? [Chorus:] So his flop we soon'll be celebrating

[Hollywood:] My, What a Guy. NIC CAGE!

[Chorus:] Ten points for Nic Cage!

I say!

i liked it also, i mean its totally BS on so many different levels, but seeing Nic Cage and Travolta swapping roles and playing off each other was entertaining enough. in the beginning Face-Off was gonna be set in the future...which would have made WAY more sense given the crazy-bullshit operation needed to swap faces and body size is not possibly by todays standards...but they picked the present time instead, which made the whole thing feel out of place, but i enjoyed it none the less.

Not to spoil anything, but I saw this movie today and through the first half of it, Nic is wearing gray sweatpants and a black t-shirt. I think ever since "Heat" it should be a protocol that the anti-hero or badass in the hitman movies or crime movies should wear stylish clothes. Cage's wardrobe seriously had me thinking that he's just chomping on club sandwiches between takes and really not giving a fuck. Then in the second half he mixes it up with hawaiian shirts and a white cowboy hat. I don't know the wardrobe choices just made me laugh.
