Hey folks, Harry here – This is a day late due to my New York travel and family from out of town, hope you’ll still enjoy it. As always if you click on the title or the box art you’ll be taken magically to Amazon where you can learn more on the title in question and if you’re feeling the urge, you can purchase it and a small portion will go to support the efforts of this column to continue to bring you the best from the land of home video. Here ya go…
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now, I've been a bit pessimistic about this movie... actually, that's not true. Being pessimistic would mean I feel strongly about it and I don't. The whole TWILIGHT craze has passed me by. I'm open for the movie working, but nothing I've seen so far has really struck me as being impressive. At this point if it's just not THE COVENANT with vampires and Kristen Stewart, the movie will be a big surprise for me.
So... have you heard that Spike Jonze is making a film out of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE?
If you forgot, you’re not to blame. The film was originally announced a few years ago, and then set for an October ’08 release, and then... well... that didn’t happen. And it didn’t happen for a variety of reasons, which all basically boil down to “it wasn’t ready.”
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Lord knows my bullshit detector isn't great when it comes to early photos. I posted some early concepts of Heath Ledger as the Joker that, while accurate to all available information at the time, were fan-made.
Hey folks, Harry here... Watching the UT vs Kansas game and decided to bring you Script Girl's latest. Here ya go... Kansas just scored, I need to concentrate for our team!
Hey folks, Harry here... I'm very giddy about this one. I don't know if it is just that Argento is directing a movie titled after the genre that he introduced me to, or if it is just that there's a new giallo from Dario. Whatever it is, this trailer which played at AFM titillates my eye and ear glands causing my mouth to water in anticipation! Yes sir, I'll take two tickets immediately!
Hey folks, Harry here… On Time this week and I hope you enjoy it, there’s some really good stuff this week, and I’ll let you get to it, so I can finally go to sleep… ugh… As usual, the box art and titles are linked to their corresponding AMAZON page where you can learn more about the title in question and/or purchase it. If you do purchase it at Amazon through a link, you should know that you’re going to support this column with a small portion of that price, so by all means… Help America’s Economy! Here ya go…
Hey folks, Harry here... Every now and again we get something cooler than Ain't It Cool should be permitted to be. Today is one of those days! I'm sure a lot of you know and love THE FLAMING LIPS... and still less of you know about their gloriously bizarre and awesome film, CHRISTMAS ON MARS!!! Actually, if you're a FLAMING LIPS fan, there's no way you don't know about it. But just in case, here's the trailer:
Hey folks, Harry here... sorry about dropping the ball on ScriptGirl's Halloween report last week, but I was a casualty of a Halloween Party that didn't have me coming up for air for an awfully long time. And... I think the shaving of my beard drained my will to write. It's like Samson's strength... It's either that or I could blame it all on being horny for all Obama news, and addicted to all the post-election stuff. Seriously, I'm an addict. I think the first step is to admit I have a problem. Now I need to finish last week's DVD column and begin this week's.
Hey folks, Harry here.... Here's a host of elements that on their own... taste great, but when mixed together... sounds like Chocolate, Tuna Fish and Beets. Something I really don't want.
I love OLDBOY, I was the first Western Critic to see the film. It is still the only film that I've ever recorded a commentary for. It is absolutely a brilliant film. We've known for years that Universal intended to remake OLDBOY. For years it was looking like Justin Lin was going to be directing it. There were rumors about Martin Scorsese at one point.
OBAMA IS PRESIDENT! I'm really damn happy right now! Hope you are too!
Hey folks, Harry here... I VOTED with my beard off! That's how serious I am about voting this time out! That's right, I shaved my precious bit of second chin fur, just so I'd be an extra bit clean cut for this election.
Ok - technically it was for my Halloween costume, I was the Indian killer from BODY DOUBLE (photos at my Facebook or Myspace.) But I purposefully did not grow it back out for the Election. Ahem.
Yes, boys and girls, once again it is Todd from Twitch here with another installment of International Eye Candy – our bi-weekly collection of the very best bits and pieces from around the globe. This time out we learn to say thank you to the French and the Belgians, who have been rather busy indeed, while we also learn that Norwegian women are rather attractive while Norwegian men are overweight slobs who masturbate a lot. Hurray!
Hey Folks, Harry here - I've got my galoshes on and I'm ready for the flood of BUTT-NUMB-A-THON 10 applications - No matter how much time I give folks, it's always that final 24 hours that brings on a Tsunami. The flood has already begun, and it seems that folks have been busy building props, doing amazing costumes or just thinking of funny & ironic situations under which to be photographed. And it seems BANGS are in for girl geeks that read AICN... I have to say... it is very nice.
Yes, I am totally in the bag for Charlie Kaufman, and I don’t care who knows it.
Why wouldn’t I be? Here’s a guy who survived the sitcom jungle and has emerged as a truly original voice in modern screenwriting, working with some of the most innovative directors of the moment to craft a series of burnished gems that I think have genuinely helped push the art of film forward at a time when studios have retreated into an infantile haze of remakes and comic books and video games and 20-years-later sequels.
Hey folks, Harry here with the last DVD TUESDAY before ELECTION DAY TUESDAY – when we’ll all be glued to our sets celebrating or crying profusely. For now, it’s just another Tuesday of DVDs – and I’m getting these out a little early, due to my ambitious Halloween party line-up here at Geek Headquarters.
Hey folks, Harry here... All geeks, everywhere love THRILLER - I remember the Making of THRILLER that appeared on MTV back in the day - and when Vincent Price did that THRILLER rap at the end... brilliance. John Landis, Rick Baker and Michael Jackson were all in their finest form. It was simply a great time. Now there's this THRILL THE WORLD movement - to establish worldwide synchronized THRILLER dance offs. Here in Austin, it caught hold a bit deeper and wider than anywhere else.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now, I don't think this movie's going to be any good. I don't have any faith in horror remakes these days. That doesn't mean it won't surprise me... I mean, it has Tom "Thrill Me" Atkins in it! There must be something good about this movie if he's in it... at least something I can enjoy.
And I love the idea of 3-D gimmick horror. JAWS 3 is damn near unwatchable, but you know what? Seeing it in 3-D makes it a good film experience. I'm hoping we at least get that.
Hey folks, Harry here - I had sent Tim League off to the Island chain of Ponga to meditate upon the brilliance that will be BUTT-NUMB-A-THON X - that's Roman for 10, he tells me and not the rating for the festival... though, you never know.
Hey folks, Harry here with this week’s DVD PICKS AND PEEKS. Fun stuff to be had – lots of gamma happening here, along with some great silents & looney tunes. As always, by clicking on the box art or the titles, you’ll be sent to Amazon where you can learn more on the title in question, or you could purchase it, which would help to sponsor this column and it’s ongoing search for cool shit for all of us. Let’s get on with it, shall we…
