There's been a great deal of confusion, on a variety of fronts, regarding the nature of J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK.
Is it a reboot? A "reimagining"? Is it "prequel" in the literal sense, or figurative sense? Even from the trailer, certain elements of the movie don't jibe with what's been established before...is this reckless oversight? Or, is there a method to the madness?

A week or two ago, we got our first look at the trailer for J.J. Abrams' new STAR TREK movie (HERE).
As big, splashy, and flashy as it was...there was something missing from that trailer - an element of the film many of us already knew about & wanted to see.

I rarely attend these types of events. Mainly because a studio gathers a large amount of Journalists into a room – they’re all shown the exact same footage and then you run to a computer to “BE FIRST” to post the book report retelling of what you just saw.
I suppose it is the job, it is the gig we’re all so lucky to have, but what about THINKING and CONSIDERING the footage, what was said and what it means to me as a viewer of said footage.
Let me gather up some of the comments I’ve found online, to get the overall sense of coverage from Fellow Online Journalistas…

Hey folks, Harry here... in the Big Apple. Yup, I was here checking this very same footage out with my own pair of eyeballs and I have to say - it is looking EVEN better - and for the first time, I'm on Chris Pine's bandwagon. I'm very curious to see the rest of his re-imagining of Captain James T Kirk's beginnings. I have an early flight, so I'm going to crash, but I'll be writing my full impressions very very soon. For now - here's the Loquacious Muse, who did not come up to chat with me. Dagnabbit.

Empire has a few new pics of Pine & Quinto as K/S. You can see them...
In that before & after picture...The Shat and Nimoy have their arms crossed, but in the equivalent photo Pine and Quinto do not. Which means: the new movie's gotta suck!

Yahoo Movies has two more pics - one featuring a full shot of the USS Kelvin (we saw a close-up of it getting the shit kicked out of it in the images gathered below), the other is a good look at Chow as Sulu.
Be sure to read the captions below the pics; Yahoo spoke with Kurtzman and Orci about them and they shared some interesting insight.

Hey folks, Harry here... The cover of the new Entertainment Weekly has Kirk & Spock v.2.0 on the cover doing their best "strike a pose" - but inside the issue is the real treats - actual shots from the film. It is strange, it feels like a million years ago when JJ showed me the brief snippets of STAR TREK that he was willing to share, but looking at the below still of Sylar as SPOCK - I can't help but remember just how perfect he was in the scenes I saw. Quinto nailed the Nimoy thing. Had the eyebrow gymnastics down and the slight wry irony of observing these Humans down perfectly.

Hey folks, Harry here... now before you say, "But WATCHMEN is Warner Brothers," I'd like to note that Paramount is handling International on the film, thus - the screening in London of Paramount films - including WATCHMEN. Otherwise, looks like good news here. Give it a look...
So – I went to a paramount press screening in London yesterday to promote their 2009 slate. Obviously they confiscated our mobile phones on entry but I thought I would report in on what I saw.
They were promoting GI Joe, Star Trek, Watchmen, Transformers 2, Redemption road and Lovely Bones

Just because J.J. Abrams didn't drag any STAR TREK footage to Comic-Con? Doesn't mean footage from Abrams' STAR TREK wasn't seen. And just because so many AICN folks are at Comic-Con? Doesn't mean our operatives aren't elsewhere as well. Watching...waiting...
