Hey folks, Harry here... The LA TIMES has the first official AVATAR behind the scenes image. It doesn't show much, and I'm hesitant to state that what is behind Cameron and Sam is "Set" because as far as I know - that's just the specialized transport vehicle insides that he rides to work in each day. BUT - having said that... it does FEEL like a Cameron bit of Science Fiction set work. Go click above and then talk about AVATAR fucking your eyes in 2009.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We got some word from a spy calling him/her/itself SuperBlade that there are pics online of a stack of boxed Avatar trailers, with a runtime of 3 mins 57 seconds. But don't take SuperBlade's word for it, check it out below:

Variety has posted an insightful write-up about the status of several high-profile, techno-geeky projects. Of the movies discussed, its look at AVATAR may be the most revelatory.
The photo-real digital film is 20% live-action with humans shot on location and 80% live-action mixed with CG elements. "It's a CG film with live-action in it,"

Hey folks, Harry here... Thanks to Chris - a reader from Germany - he has made us aware of a brief Audio file from an interview with Sigourney Weaver which entirely concerns AVATAR - the movie that I feel we're collectively holding our breath awaiting the first real image, footage and trailer for. It's funny - the other day I sat down to watch the entire first series of the SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, mainly at the behest of the talkbackers protesting my Train Wreck comment. Many said that I should watch past the first couple of episodes, as the show really did pick up. Boy do I agree.

Hey folks, Harry here... in the last 4 days I've been sent the art below from multiple sources claiming that it was promo art from Avatar. Well - I decided to run it by Jim to see what he said and to ask how things were coming along on AVATAR. Here's the latest from the man himself...

Harry,
Good to hear from you.
This art is not from us. I don't know where it comes from. More overactive fan imaginations? It's not bad though.

Hey folks, Harry here... Well, you asked for it, I asked for it and now I have permission to give it to ya! Here's the letter, complete and unedited that I received from James Cameron that was sent to set us right regarding that alleged AVATAR art... and giving us the low down on the coolness that is his daily life upon the set of AVATAR. Enjoy...

Hey folks, Harry here... A few days ago, Merrick posted an image that was represented as being a Na'Vi character design from James Cameron's AVATAR. The design was also allegedly removed from a number of other sites that it had been posted upon. However, we here at AICN, never received such a request. However, I did receive an email from James Cameron today catching me up with how production is going on AVATAR. In that letter, he specifically addressed that design, here is that portion of the letter...

Merrick here...
Okay...so...if you've been paying extra-special close attention to the Internets over the past few days, you may've noticed an image appearing on (and then disappearing from) several websites.
The image is a piece of art said to depict the "aliens" (depending on your perspective) from James Cameron's forthcoming AVATAR.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a pretty decent sized interview I recently did with Joel Moore star of two vastly different geek properties. First is HATCHET, which opens in limited cities this very day and the second is a film that won’t open for another 2 years almost: James Cameron’s AVATAR.
We talk about both and I have to say… he was a lot more up front about AVATAR and his role in the grand scheme of things than I was expecting.
Tons of horror and gore talk and then a nice juicy nugget about the first James Cameron feature film in a decade. Not a bad haul, says I. Enjoy the talk!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It seems that this film has been happening forever, hasn't it? They already have some great people attached, including Sigourney Weaver, CCH Pounder and Sam Worthington. Now they've added Stephen Lang and Michelle Rodriguez. Rodriguez is no Vasquez, but I guess she's close enough.
She'll play an ex-Marine pilot and Lang will be a crusty Marine colonel who travels to Pandora to lead its troops. Apparently, Lang met for a role way back on ALIENS, but didn't get the part.

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
One of the coolest demos I’ve ever seen for anything regarding exhibition was the 3D digital demo I was shown at Lightstorm a few years ago. They showed me several different pieces of films, some shot in 3D, some retrofitted for it, and it all sort of knocked my socks off.
There was a clip from THE TWO TOWERS where Sam and Frodo were walking around Gollum, interacting with him, and it really sold the illusion. I believed that they were sharing space with this third character, that he was real. And the best moments I was shown were more about drawing you into the screen than things popping out.

Hey Folks - Harry here... Tonight is Valentine's Day night. Originally the plan was for Yoko and I to travel to the Alamo Village here in Austin to attend their HAROLD & MAUDE VALENTINE'S DAY FEAST. Something we've been planning for about 2 months. However, FATE... DESTINY... FLU caused Yoko to want to stay at home tonight. We ordered in, had yummy yummies brought in. We ate Dinner... Have been sweet and huggy... I offered to get the Cherry Pie out the ice box and put the laundry in the dryer. So there I was - standing between the fridge and the Washer-Dryer when...

Though Nickelodeon only started transmitting Avatar: The Last Airbender less than two years ago, M. Night Shyamalan has already announced that he is mounting a series of three live-action movies based on the highly-rated franchise.
Though animated in Korea, it’s actually an American production originating in Burbank, Calif. AICN’s own Moriarty says of the new set streeting today :
… this show is smartly designed, and it’s written smart. There’s no talking down to an audience, at least not in the episodes I saw. … I was able to pick up with the first episode of season two and not feel like I was really missing anything. … the closest thing I’ve ever seen to Miyazaki on television. … It’s not an expensive show, but it’s so smartly stylized that the inexpensive animation never comes across as a negative. The show definitely has a sense of humor, but it also has some thrilling action scenes that are not just place-holders. There’s a sense that the show really is progressing, that these characters are growing. It’s all heading somewhere, and isn’t just some stagnant meandering repetition of a basic formula. None of the five episodes I saw struck me as being the same story, and that’s rare enough with this sort of program.
Read Moriarty’s entire review of the set here.

Hopeless Pictures , also streeting today, is a zippy semi-improvisational 9-episode animated sitcom from the Independent Film Channel. It's about Mel Wax, the head of an independent film studio. Multi-episode arcs deal with an attempted hostile takeover, an out-of-control overseas production, and the collapse of Wax’s marriage. It stars Michael McKean, Jennifer Coolidge and Bob Balaban - three actors who have appeared in all of Christopher Guest’s fauz-documentaries – with support from Jonathan Katz (playing a professional therapist), Lisa Kudrow, Buck Henry, Martin Mull, Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, John Michael Higgins, Paul Dooley, Emmy Laybourne, David L. Lander, Nora Ephron, Rob Reiner, Paul Weitz andPaul Reubens.

You can buy Walker: Texas Ranger: The Complete Second Season , strap your DVD remote on a giant lever, and pretend you’re Conan O’Brien as you call up random scenes.
This completely awful martial-arts actioner was co-created by Paul Haggis, who wrote on tons of awful TV (“The Love Boat,” “Diff’rent Strokes,” “Who’s The Boss,” “Michael Hayes,” “Family Law”) for the first 50 years of his life, then went on to write two Oscar-winning scripts (“Million Dollar Baby” and “Crash”), as well as “Casino Royale,” “Flags of Our Fathers” and “Letters From Iwo Jima.”

Okay. I’ve heard the title before. I’m vaguely aware that the show is on the air. I think I saw the main character on the front of a candy bar when I was in line at the grocery store not long ago. But I’ve never felt any particular urge to check out AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER.
Then Jim Cameron announced that he was making his new movie. That, uh, turns out to have nothing whatsoever to do with this show. And that same day, M. Night Shyamalan announced he was making this show into a trilogy of films. One announcement was not a surprise. One most certainly was.
That same day, I got a letter from a publicist I know, sending along a press release for the new DVD release of AVATAR – BOOK 2: EARTH, VOL. 1. I wrote back and asked them to send it along, and she asked me if I’d like to run an exclusive AVATAR comic for you guys on the day of release.

Hey folks, Harry here... First I want to clear something up. The reason that "part two" of the Cameron interview isn't here - is that it hasn't happened yet. When James had to deal with the Malibu fire situation - well, doing the second half of our interview evaporated next to well the crazy situation that he faced. Since then, there hasn't been time, and we're hoping to finish up sometime soon. Meanwhile - some interesting word is hitting. I've had multiple sources tell me that Michael Biehn is in AVATAR. In addition - word comes today that Sigourney Weaver has alluded to being in an upcoming film of Cameron's. I'm betting that it's AVATAR. When next I speak to Jim, I'll get his perspective on these 'rumors' - but it sounds good to me.

Hey folks, Harry here… Today was a weird day. I was out shopping for my fiancee’s birthday and our upcoming 1 year anniversary – when suddenly my cel phone began letting out with “When you Wish Upon A Star,” – the screen read that it was originating from California – and the voice stated it was Jon Landau of Lightstorm Entertainment.
OOOOO. K.
We exchange niceties – and Jon moves on to the business at hand. Seems that Fox had just announced and released a press release stating that they had formally greenlit AVATAR – big duh – they’ve only been shooting stuff on secret stages that only our spies know about for the past 4 months… but whatever, I suppose their stocks needed a lift. But whatever the case may be, Jon was calling to give me fair warning that James Cameron wanted to talk to me later today. No set time mind you, just… later today.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Well, it's officially happening. Fox has given James Cameron $200 million to move forward on AVATAR. The light is green, the trap is clean.
Cameron announced the project as being the mysterious Project 880 back in February with an interview with Harry and a lot of the big announcement made today has been known, like Weta's involvement in bringing the heavily mo-capped film into reality.
Sam Worthington, whom I really liked in SOMERSAULT and look forward to seeing him do battle with a giant croc in the upcoming ROGUE, is playing the male lead and Zoe Saldana is playing the female lead. You might recognize Saldana from the bit part of Anamaria in the first PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN flick.
