Princess Buttercup fills us in on Kaufman's SYNECDOCHE, NY, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU from the TIFF!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Princess Buttercup has seen a slew of movies that I'd strangle some Nazis to check out, especially Charlie Kaufman's SYNECDOCHE, NY. She says it'll be a love/hate film and I'm fine with that. I love films that force you out of the middle, I just hope on the right side of that. And I'm very much looking forward to NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU. PARIS JE T'AIME really, really, really worked for me. And we have a Danny Boyle movie covered below!

Another enthusiastic review of Darren Aronofsky's THE WRESTLER comes charging in from Rome!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a spy calling himself JediMoonShyne who caught a screening of Aronofsky's THE WRESTLER over in Italy. The more that comes out about this flick the more it seems Aronofsky knocked this one out of the park. Can't wait to see Mickey Rourke going crazy for myself! Enjoy the review!

Thanks again for posting up my thoughts on 'Choke', you guys rock. Last night I saw Darren Aronofsky's new one 'The Wrestler' which was excellent.
Here are a few words -

Art Snob checks out RELIGULOUS at Toronto!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. You know my thoughts on Bill Maher and Larry Charles' flick, but we got another review from regular voice Art Snob. He seemed to enjoy the film as much as I did, but is concerned with the impact it's going to have. I won't speak for him any more, so without any further introing, here's Art Snob!

RELIGULOUS

(Note: the official pronunciation is with a hard “G” – the “lig” rhymes with “big”.)

TIFF: El Chivo returns with thoughts on APPALOOSA, BLINDNESS, GOODBYE SOLO, MORE THAN A GAME and WW2 flick FLAME & CITRON!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with El Chivo's newest Toronto article, covering Ed Harris' Western APPALOOSA, City of God's director Fernando Meirelles' flick BLINDNESS, the LeBron James doc MORE THAN A GAME, Danish kill them Nazis good WW2 resistance film FLAME & CITRON and Ramin Bahrani's GOODBYE SOLO, which is a surprise Star Wars film that takes place between EMPIRE and JEDI. Oh, sorry... Just read the review and it's a drama about a cab driver in North Carolina. Nevermind.

TIFF: El Giante finds a DEADGIRL strapped to a theater chair and does ungodly things to her...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've already begun my Fantastic Fest scheduling and one of the flicks that caught my eye was DEADGIRL. Seemed interesting and after reading the below review from El Giante I'm even more psyched to see it. Comparing the flick to TEETH is enough for me. I loved TEETH... in fact, I need to pick up that DVD... Anyway, here's El Giante with his full review!

Hello again, thanks for posting my last review.

TIFF: El Giante on the Rufus Sewell thriller VINYAN!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another review from the great white north. This time we have the thriller VINYAN starring Rufus Sewell. I remember catching wind of this via Todd's International Eye Candy Column and the review that Giante wrote actually gets me excited to see it. I kinda like those reviews that throw down the gauntlet. You're either going to buy into the movie and love it or you'll hate it. Can't wait to see what side I fall on. Enjoy the review!

TIFF: Art Snob chimes in on Guy Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA, Ed Harris' APPALOOSA and French-Canadian flick IT'S NOT ME, I SWEAR!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another report out of Toronto, this time from Art Snob who has a look at three flicks, including Guy Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA and Ed Harris' western APPALOOSA, which I'm very much looking forward to. Especially after reading Art Snob's ROCKNROLLA review! And even though he doesn't give a full recommendation for APPALOOSA, it sounds like the kind of flick that's right up my alley.

Here's the first set of reviews from Art Snob!!!

TIFF: Princess Buttercup digs on DETROIT METAL CITY!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here to introduce Princess Buttercup once again, this time here with her thoughts on DETROIT METAL CITY, based on the popular Manga. Her review is definitely positive, but not as enthusiastic as Anton's. Gene Simmons sounds like he makes this movie with his appearance. Fun is all I ask for in a movie like this. Here's the Princess.

Yet another Toronto FF goer loves up on JCVD!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another glowing JCVD review. This movie better be as good as everyone's saying it is or I'll start training right now, shed 100 pounds and learn how to Blood Sport fight and JCVD up all these reviewers with my glued-on glass shard gloves...

Hey, this is Captain here. I sent in the "The semi-negative HOSTEL review" from TIFF '05 and I had the pleasure of catching JCVD late Thursday night. Anyways, just thought I'd throw my hat in the ring here. Hope you have room for another review. Enjoy!

TIFF: Anton Sirius on the 'sublime and ridiculous' DETROIT METAL CITY and Garin Nugroho's UNDER THE TREE!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the newest from Anton out of Toronto. I've heard really good things about DETROIT METAL CITY and have another positive review which just came in that will be posted very soon. Sounds my kind of fucked up and bizarre. This is my first time hearing about UNDER THE TREE, though, but it sounds like a pleasant surprise. Thanks for putting it on the radar, Anton! Here's his thoughts!

TIFF: El Chivo on Richard Linklater's ME & ORSON WELLES, Guy Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA, Ricky Gervais' GHOST TOWN and THREE MONKEYS!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with El Chivo's latest batch from Toronto! The new Linklater movie, ME & ORSON WELLES in particular sounds like a stand-out and even though Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA appears to be same old Guy Ritchie... well, I like old Guy Ritchie. And if Ghost Town has enough good Ricky Gervais moments to lift it out of big studio comedy mediocrity, then I'll be very happy. Here's El Chivo!

TIFF: Anton Sirius on JCVD and J-horror style misfire SAUNA!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with Anton Sirius' first of many reports from the Toronto International Film Festival. I am salivating about JCVD, which absolutely sounds like the most fun flick doing festival rounds right now. Can't wait for Fantastic Fest. As for Sauna... well, J-horror has been stale for years now, so it's not surprising if it doesn't work. But I'll let Anton give you the good word on the two flicks! Enjoy!

Art Snob sums up TIFF with looks at PRINCESS AND THE WARRIOR; LONERS; MEN OF HONOR; DEBT; and HARRY, HE'S HERE TO HELP
