I'm fascinated that opinions about HANCOCK are so sharply divided.
I get how & why the film could be criticized, but in my circle the haters seem to hate it & the lovers seem to worship it - with very few opinions falling in between (although I think Harry loved the first half of the movie and really didn't like the second half).

Shorter than LAST ACTION HERO and less of a "WTF?" jumble than HUDSON HAWK (a movie I dearly love all the same), Will Smith's HANCOCK is the mess that results from the world's biggest movie star getting "edgy" on a studio's dime.

2008, for better or for worse, will be remembered as the year the superhero genre on film proved its longevity and its elasticity, and I think next year’s arrival of WATCHMEN has the potential to be perfectly timed.

Hey folks, Harry here... This is a short notice screening recruiting endeavor. Sony wanted to show me HANCOCK and I kinda wanted an audience, cuz it ain't no fun watching movies alone. So here we are - set up with a Midnight screening tomorrow night of Will Smith's big 4th of July starrer... HANCOCK.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We have a pair of reviews below for HANCOCK, one a reader review and one from our own Downunder Wonder Latauro. We'll see how it evens out, but neither one loved the movie (though Latauro seemed to ultimately enjoy himself) and the final review is pretty damn harsh.
I hope it's at least fun, but if we had to have a big geek movie stinker I'd rather it be HANCOCK and not something like HELLBOY 2 or THE DARK KNIGHT.

PLEASE NOTE: the version screened last night was incomplete, so the film might change between now and it's early July release.

There's a new HANCOCK trailer over at Yahoo. It's rather similar in nature to the one which screened on AMERICAN IDOL a few weeks back - but expanded a bit.
Even though we're hearing extremely mixed feedback on this film, I'm still holding out hope that it may still be aiight. It opens in early July, presumably after IRON MANia has subsided. We'll see.

A new trailer for HANCOCK premiered on TV last night & has already hit YouTube. It shows tons of action & visual effects; I love the shot of Will Smith powering through the air in his Superman pose with a bottle in one hand.

Response seems decidedly mixed on this one so far. I like Peter Berg a lot. One of the first films I ever took shit for recommending on this site was VERY BAD THINGS, and over the years, I think he’s gotten better with each film.

Hey folks, Harry here... I like Peter Berg - but this DUNE thing scares the shit out of me. Rather than remaking this film, I'm more behind giving the entire budget to Lynch to finish out that full scale 5-6 hour version that he made, but really didn't get to finish. BUT - ok... Berg is making DUNE.... that's a done deal. It'll be our future reality. BUT his next released film is going to be HANCOCK - and wow... JV - who saw the film up in Plano... makes this film sound like a steaming turd to avoid at all costs.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Over the last year I've heard nothing but good things about the script (surprising because there are more writers on this film than Oscars on Spielberg's shelf) and getting Will Smith to play a cranky, lazy superhero in a huge-budgeted comedy is pretty hard to mess up.

KaNkeRhOnD Extraordinaire sent in some photos from the filming of HANCOCK. This is the angsty, not-entirely-squeaky-clean superhero movie that was once called TONIGHT, HE COMES. That sounded kind of like a porn title, so they changed it to HANCOCK...which could also be twisted to sound like a porn title if one was smutty enough (which, evidently, I am if I noticed this).
Not sure what's going on in these shots. I hadn't heard anything about Theron's character being a superhero in this film...so I don't know what she's doing hoisting up that bigass truck. Maybe it's a dream/imagination sequence or something?
