Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a spy calling himself JediMoonShyne who caught a screening of Aronofsky's THE WRESTLER over in Italy. The more that comes out about this flick the more it seems Aronofsky knocked this one out of the park. Can't wait to see Mickey Rourke going crazy for myself! Enjoy the review!

Brooklyn-bred Darren Aronofsky has gone to New Jersey and made his NEBRASKA. As spare and haunting as Bruce Springsteen's acoustic masterwork, Aronofsky's THE WRESTLER is less reinvention than refinement: the relentless self-destruction of mind and body depicted in PI and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM has merged with THE FOUNTAIN's search for spiritual grace, while his audacious technique has been abandoned for a naturalistic approach that recalls the independent American cinema of the 1970s and 80s.

The news of Marisa Tomei's casting hit last night and then today I get a nice little nugget from a reader who attended a wrestling match taken over by Aronofsky and crew for their new movie. This isn’t an image from the film, but it may give us our first look at what Mickey Rourke will look like in the film, and that’s worth a peek, don’tcha think?
I still can’t believe the next two films from Aronofsky are called THE WRESTLER and THE BOXER. I can’t wait to see how they play off each other, and how they change him as a director. Sounds like new territory for him.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Original, Nicholas Cage was going to topline Darren Aronofsky's next flick THE WRESTLER, but this morning came news that not only was Cage not in the film anymore, but Mickey Rourke has signed on to play Randy "The Ram" Robinson.
I certainly buy Rourke as an older wrestler who gets back in the ring for one more ROCKY BALBOAesque shot at glory more than Nicholas Cage. In fact, wasn't Roarke a boxer?
